It was told that I should soak my fiberglass header wrap in water before I wrap my headers. Do or dont? Any advice on wrapping them, anything to know before I do this? | ||

YES! It makes it a little easier to put on. But mostly it keeps the fiberglass dust from going everywhere. If you don't then make sure you get a good dust mask! Fiberglass in the lungs is not something you want to be dealing with. | ||

BUELLers: Have had my header wrapped for years now ... Use HI-TEMP RED paint on mine ... On second re-wrap as someone twisted my wrap and broke it ... This is how "i" did mine: You must WET(used an old windex bottle to squirt water as "i" wraped) the wrap for it to wrap properly ... You must allow a little space between the CLAMP,exhaust header and header flange for easier assembly/dis-assembly ... Used one(1) inch wrap(makes the bends easier)... Used SAFETY WIRE to hold ends(did not trust the clips that are recommend) ... Over lapped 1/2 inch and when done, went back over 1/2 inch over lap with SAFETY WIRE to keep some one from breaking the wrap again ... Lay the header out in the SUN and it will dry quickly for painting(did 3 coats) ... MAY THE LONG LASTING BUELL BE WITH YOU !!!} (Message edited by buellistic on April 30, 2009) | ||

Buellistic does not make many of the parts for our Buells. He makes many of the parts for our Buells better. Buellistic is like the 3M of Buell parts! Thanks for the advice. Frank  | ||

...and he's just old enough to recycle it. JK I don't know if soaking it is the best way to go because all the excess water is dripping everywhere. I put mine in a bucket and poured in just enough water to keep it moist. It definitely allows you to pull it tighter then when it dries it makes it nice and tight. Don't worry about the smoke when you first start it up, that's normal. Wear long sleeves and gloves. The gardening gloves with the rubber coated palms and fingers are what I have found to work best.  | ||

The plan right now is to have it broke in and ready to go to D.C. in 21 days. I got a call last night and my connecting rods are ready, I ordered my pistons from NRHS, the 3M 800 glue for the cases should be in today so all I need now are my gaskets and I'm going to contact Al today about that. Once I get everything all together it should be a pretty quick process. I hope! |
