I managed to find a new Pegasus Derby and timing cover. I thought I would ask before experimenting on new parts. Both covers are painted, I would like to polish them. In the past I would remove factory paint by using a glass bead in my blast cabinet. Has anyone used paint stripper and then polished? I would hate to damage the surface since these are very hard to find in Canada
Thanks Andrew

The Pegasus covers have a satin chrome finish. Use a paint stripper to remove the paint, bead blasting may damage the chrome. If you want to polish the covers you will need to have the chrome chemically stripped.

What is under the paint?is it chrome? The grey paint looks OK but the smaller inspection cover is polished and the primary is black.I would like them to match if possible.

After spending the last 2 weeks polishing parts on my bike. My advice is to avoid the sand blaster at all cost. Use paint striper then start with 320 grit sand paper and work your way thru 400-600-800-1000-1500. I found for me using a car buffer and mothers was the easiest. Once finished with mothers I used semichrome for the final mirror shine.

LOL
For the timing cover I didn't even use a stripper. I went right to the wheel and polished the paint right off...
