Will this fit an X1 or do I need L0501.2

I searched and found no ref to the "D" variant

I believe on the -79D part , the center hole is not the correct size . It's 7/16" , not the required 1/2". That's what I found out , the last time I bought one , it was an easy fix to drill it to 1/2" in the drill press.

has it lasted for you?

Did you install it flat side up or flat side down.

This is a confusing part There are no less than 5 part numbers listed here and much conflicting info.

Yes , it's still intact a year later , the wife is out riding that bike as we speak. It doesn't get the hammering it once did although ,I have observed her with the front wheel in the air on more than one occasion.
Sorry I can't remember which way it was put in for sure , I think the moulded in washer is suposed to be on the top.

12mpg there is on going testing on a drag specialties part look in the archive (last month)

the 79D must be drilled out, the last L0501.2 I installed lasted less than 6 months, recently the #%$#$% head mount broke the left hand bolt, (common failure)
bike has 39k on the clock.

either get the 0501.2 or the drag spec part, NOTE (DS) is harder material and your X1 will shake like a paint shaker till it settles in.

12mpghwy:

16207-79D is the LAST UP-DATE("D") on this H-D part ...

If you look on the FRONT ISOLATOR "BUELLschitte" part number L0501.2 you will find a H-D part number which will be 162070-79C !!!

The part you want to use is the "HEAVIER DUTY" part number 16207-79D which you must improvise a little to fit} !!!

Any other customization other than drilling the center out of the a D part I want to use the longest lasting part, can anyone tell me which side goes up, I am assuming its the flat side with the built in washer, but assumptions have been biting me in the ass latley.

How delicate of a job is drilling out the -79D? I've gotta replace my front isolator pretty soon, and should have access to a drill press.

He said was a take off and put on for him ...

Acording to JRamsey the operation is quick and painless, the drill press should do
I would suggsest that you keep an EYE on it
as the center mount tube is thin and there is significant pressure on it that will want to colapse it

that mount bolt torks to 110ft lbs
the isolator will be marked "top"
the "D" washer is a "failsafe device" in the event of a "rip out" the motor is not supposed to fall down

good luck.

As an addendum to Buellistic's post regarding the upgraded isolator fitting the Blast...I just checked, and the mount bolt is 7/16". That is why it was a direct bolt-in on my Blast....so if the tuber uses a 1/2" bolt...it is not a direct bolt-in.

The good news is due to the new design, it won't shear like the stocker.

The "D" washer isn't used with the -79D if its installed the same side up as on a big twin because on the conical (up side)end it has a 3/16" thick large dia. washer built on the end of the center tube.

I did put a thick washer between the top of the iso and the nut just to take up the thread length difference.

anyone know if a 7/16th bolt like used in the blast can be used in a tuber with the -79D to avoid the need to drill the mount?

Or would this be mechanically bad

Wouldn't that make for vibrations in the hole for the motor mount more likely, causing a huge problem?

L0501.2 is the correct one if you DON'T want to drill. The L0501.TA(the Buell Blast mount) is the EXACT same mount as the 16207-79D and it is cheaper because it is a Buell part as opposed to a Harley part. Either one of those you would need to drill on. I would not try to use a 7/16 inch bolt on an X1.

BUELLers:

You'll really need to look at the ISOLATOR and find the H-D Part number on it to really find out what the real part number is ...

Have not had to up-date my last front isolator re-placerment yet, "BUT" when "i" do you'll will be in the "LOOP" !!!
