Check with Tom Fleming in Florida. He just finished mine along with another for someone else. Here's his website:

http://www.tfracingsuspension.com/

He's cheaper than the rest and as good as anybody.

I don't know if Traxion Dynamics rebuilds them but they are regarded at the top of the suspension heap,

Court:
I called Traxion DynamicsI was told that they don't rebuild them any more.

I have called TF Racing suspension got the answer machine,

I have called the local (asheville nc area) Race Tech guy never seen one but rebuild 160$ ( not confidence inspiring )

BenM2's tear down looks promising, I have rebuilt some old Koni's I had years ago, not much to them, I think that the spring compressor can be made from some mild steel stock and all thread

Hmmmmmmm with over 1k going out already this has some appeal.

It seems the works shock is 905
the penske with the same adjustments 940

we should be getting the penske then? I really dig the bike but hate that harsh back suspension. Sharp square edged bumps are the worst.

Tom Fleming rebuilt mine for 144.00 but I helped him out because he needed to see one to put another one back together. He used an entire new head assembly with seals not just seals alone. This included oil and nitrogen and shipping. I think Tom will do anyones here complete for less than 200.00. Call him and ask. The shock looks new. He cleaned the shock thoroughly. I'm very pleased. Ride report to follow.

Racetech rebuilt my stock shock and shipped to Canada for less than $150. Military discount, but great work and customer service and 4000km's and no leaks yet.

I'm about to get the shock rebuilt with the racetech kit. They were going to order the kit on monday and rebuild it. I'll tell them to get the 16 mm kit. Thanks for the heads up - would have added to the wait time.

I've e-mailed TF Racing Suspension aka Tom Fleming and I will be shipping out the blown rear shock to my '99 X1 shortly. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Are you talking about $200 + parts for the rebuild?

I was quoted $170 for the shock rebuild kit from Race tech + 2 hours to install. It's going to be about $400 with oil and nitrogen.

My costs so far,

45$ + freight for the seals and a new nut
25$ + Freight for the bushings,
21$ bottle of BelRay "fluid"

John At Moto Pro has never reworked one of the buell shocks, but discussing the take down procedures its clear to me has had his hands in more than one and could do it no problem I will post up on the seals and reassemble when I get the stuff.

B&C If you want it done Aftershocks does it for 360 including parts.

RaceTech majic Shock oil is EXPENSIVE
Belray is about 10$ a bottle cheaper.

I Got TF's answer machine and never heard from him,

I spoke with Tom (TR Racing) this morning.

$160 for him to rebuild the shock - includes the oil and nitrogen

Add $59 for a new seal head assembly (from Showa if i remember correctly)

Add $179 for a Race Tech gold valve piston kit ($169 is last years price)

Tom highly recommended the gold valve kit. He said the difference is night and day (especially since I'm 215 lbs.)

Since it's basically the same price ($400), I'm having the shop do it. It's already there and it's easier going around the corner than Florida.

I feel better letting the pros deal with something as important as the suspension though. All else, Tom was very knowledgeable and helpful on the phone. His prices assumed the stock shaft and can are in good working condition. He does not charge extra for the tear down/diagnostics. If you get the Gold kit, he returns the cleaned stock components.

All,

I had a custom spring wound for my shock as well, I also got it from John @ MotoPro. I took a bunch of measurements on the stock spring, and took a guess at a new length & rate. Right now the shock is assembled & my sag is okay and I don't have NEARLY the preload I had with the stock spring.

As far as rate goes, I guessed based on my weight & info I sucked off of this site and from Traxxion's spring rate chart: I ended up at 500 lb/in for my dry weight of 182 and a bike dedicated to track usage.

If anything I think I could have gone a bit shorter on the spring, since I have almost no preload right now. I'll post my actual measurements, guesses & calcs over on the KV later.

I don't want to say much more about the setup right now since the bike hasn't seen action yet. I hope to get the frame mods (S1 tail conversion) done this week and have it back on the track before the end of May. I'll post the results then.

Ben
