the header was a bit yellow and wasnt diggin it so i had the header and can powdercoated. whatcha think

Shag9499, looks great! Forgive a stupid question. I have never heard of "high heat powder coat" is it a different type of coating using the same paint. I always though that powder coating would be ineffective as a high heat paint.

Do they use different paint or treat it different? Also, did they do the race can as a unit or in pieces?

all it says is that its for high heat and is good for 1100 deg i believe. website offers little details but for what ive got in it i had to try it. roseys powdercoating is the site. high heat powder. i went against my gut in that i wanted ceramic but a buddy allready had this stuff and so i say what they hey. well see how it holds up. i went for about a 40 mile trip today and the only blemishes were from the damn front y clamp coming loose and rubbing the pipe, but its low and not noticible unless your down there looking at it. nothing different in the process he did. i sandblasted and then he used some brake cleaner to get most the oil lifted and preheated to expire all the other crap that mighta been present. the can was done as a unit, as mine is gutted. he had some problems with the two end caps on the can because of the gap but he laid it on a little heavier and it looks good. also theres one lil spot where the two pipes are welded together that he couldnt get it to cover because it wanted to got the pipe and not penetrate back between the pipes but all in all it was relatively inexpensive and changed the looks like i wanted.

Thanks for the info. I am thinking of doing something similar to one of my bikes. It really looks good!

i like it a lot its not smooth but its not a wrinkle finish either. remind me and ill update this after a week of riding with pics

Looks great!

Let us know if it affects heat from the pipe at all or if it's purely cosmetic.

Sounds like mostly cosmetic.

I am very interested to see if it works out! I want to do the same to mine I am going to black out the whole bike. I talked to a guy that does powder coating and he said it will be fine but they will tell you anything to sell you something

i spoke with my powder coater, the high heat powder coat does nothing for adding insulation, just able to withstand high temps as needed on an exhaust system. much cheaper than doing ceramic, but you don't get any of the performance benefits.

after getting a few miles on her after the powdercoating everythings holding up. as u can see by the pic i have removed the rear cylinder heat shield ( plastic piece) that was on the bike. now after doing this and riding it with the old uncoated exhaust i noticed the heat on my right leg from the header. now i know its been a little cooler here since then but after the powdercoat process i dont notice it anymore so it seems to have some heat retention. as soon as i find some new rubber for the bike i intend on powdering the rims flat black. im tossing around the idea of doing flat black on the rim all but the polished lip and leaving it polished. not sure though any thoughts?

I thought about the same thing. I want to black out the whole bike and think it would look cool to have that polished edge on the rim

yeah the polished lip looks cool but ive seen bikes that have the just the "spokes" painted and the whole rim polished.
