20k on the motor the parts guys said it is foolish not to replace the head studs? is this true? | ||

depends on what you are already doing??? if you have the top end off, i'd replace them. if you are just replacing rocker box gaskets, i wouldn't replace them. my .02 | ||

Buellistic; even though the FSM doesn't state that they should be replaced, it is common practice on most high compression engines to replace head bolts/studs periodically. if you can spend a few bucks to have a little more comfort in knowing you are getting accurate torque readings, and not over stretching the studs, why not? the FSM does state however, that even slightly bending the studs MAY cause a stress riser, why take the chance? therefore, in my opinion, and mine only, if you are removing the heads/cylinders, spend the few extra bucks and minutes to replace these studs that get a tremendous amount of stress/heat cycles. is it necessary? probably not! do i do it... absolutely! should you? your call. no arguments either way from me. |
