Listed my Buell on Craigslist/ Boston (4/7/09) for $3150...but after reviewing/researching what others on this fine forum have asked for their S1's, I'm now uncomfortable w/ my asking price..(too low)

looking for input from anyone who could, after going to the ad, could give me a solid idea of what I could get for this beauty..

thanks

I've received quite a response for the ad....only too good...feel like I'm giving it away...but i don't want to be ridiculous either by asking an unreasonable figure...

Seems pretty low, I can't believe NADA prices it at $2274 and didn't even ask mileage! KBB lists $3555 for a retail value, I think they are giving me region specific info.

Ah, hold on... my in-laws are out there now, I could have them bring it back with them in May... oooohhhhh! hmmmmm...

Would you take $2450?

Okay, depends on how bad you want to sell, might could start as high as $4500-$4300 might still move pretty quick, kind of depends on what your area will support and the condition of the bike, of course.

Here, tell everyone that it sold.

Re-list in another couple weeks, saying you had a deadbeat buyer, or don't mention it at all. Take new pics, don't use the same ones, LOL.

Easy way to relist and up the ante. =)

3 years ago, I bought my 98 S1W for high book, with 1,100 miles on it. Absolutely zero regrets whatsoever.

S1s have an aura. Go high. It'll *speak* to someone and they'll have to have it. Mid-4k to 5k, not unreasonable. The books are low; they take into account all the ones that are being sold(sacrificed) to the chopper crowd.

Again - you can always come down.

Great looking pics on the ad. Just for accuracy - the PMs aren't chrome, they're polished aluminum. Nice bike. Hold out for good $ : )

Don't fool yourself though. The market right now is horrible for selling bikes. I have 3 for sale. Cannot give away the ROC S-1W I have.Do market survey of CL and Cycle Trader then think about how much--and how fast-- you want to sell it.

Well after being on the receiving end of a "listed before they thought it out fully"......I can say it would be very rude to pull the ad/lie and say its sold and then relist...but it is your bike.
I think what you listed it at was fair.....check out some of the super nice bikes for sale here lately.

Well Joe, if the owner of a vehicle decides not to sell it, that's his prerogative. If he's not in a contract what's to stop him? There's not even an inferred agreement to sell at this price that we know about. (Except maybe to me for the super low price I offered above, that gave me first dibs, right?)

Looking at the list of add-ons, updates, and upgraded parts he's got on this bike it would be foolish for anyone to try and push him to sell at this price if he re-lists. Besides if someone did he could simply decide not to sell it anyway.

Unless you want it gone now Chauncy, I suggest you pull your add then re-list the thing, be honest about your reasons if you have any qualms. Doesn't hurt to be honest:

"Thought you saw something that was too good to be true? You did, this Fabulous '96 S1 Lightning re-listed..."

or

"Due to an error on the seller's part..."

or

"Due to a clerical error this 96 Lightning has been listed at a more appropriate price..."

Follow Jim's advice on your market survey though. You could prolly still get rid of it fast for more. Just decide how bad you want it gone, and what a fair market value is. Why take less than the market will support?

all good advice.....I'm now scaring every possible buyer away by informing them that the price was actually "$31,500" and that I simply put the decimal point in the wrong place.....solves the problem....After all, I haven't even ridden it one mile. Bought it (last Fall)..brought it home in a cube van, and rolled it into my basement. It's been napping down there ever since...I know,I know, waste of a perfectly good Buell.....As far as the ad is concerned,I've taken calls but I haven't had the opportunity to show the bike to anyone...so I haven't committed to any agreement that I would need to (unethically) reverse course on...Besides, buyers have been known to change their minds occasionally...why should it be any different for the seller?!. (OH-NO,..sounds to me like I'm talking myself into keeping it...)

I paid my '98 S1WL, with 3900 miles, great conditions, $6000 about a year and a half ago.
I found the bike on Ebay, the guy was a local, asked for his reserve price, he said 6K, I told him to end the auction earlier and I was gonna pay him 6 grand cash.
he didn't know how to use ebay so he just let the auction go and the bike ended up with a maximum bid of $5900! I didn't miss my S1 for 100 bucks.
I don't know in what conditions is your bike now, but 3000 or little more it's a low price for an S1.
I understand the market is very bad and if you need to sell it quickly, that's the way to go.
but you should risk a little bit more, IMO...
