I was just wondering if anyone has a part number for a K&N oil filter for an 01 x1, I would like the larger 5" one but it need's to be pre-drilled on the end for a safety wire. I tried calling k&N and they are stupid and cant tell me a cross reference on the size of the filter only model and year specific to look up filters.

Ill check mine when I get home. Off the top of my head I think it's hp1002. That's the normal size filter though. I've never heard of an oversize kn that fits tubers.

It has safety wire holes drilled through a hex head on the end. 1" IIRC.

Well i got a large filter from AL @ American Sport Bike but it has no nut on the end, I have seen them on there site but i can't find a dam number

The dam filter just needs to be 2" longer than the stock length and those parts jockey's at K&N are stupid

The Filter i have is 3/4 thread 2.98 outer diameter by 5" in length, If i can't get a K&N i will get whatever i can that has a pre-drilled nut on the end for safety wiring

I have had this longer filter vibrate itself off 2 times now, The first time it took the adapter out with it. This time the filter backed out and the o-ring popped out enough to shoot oil everywhere not to mention that i almost DIED for a second time

I have a K&N master catalog for 2008.
The X1 is listed BU-1297 for the air filter. The oil filter has two different numbers but don't say which is a 5 inch filter. If either are...
The 1st number is KN-171B the second is KN-171c

I just noticed in the back of the book they have a web site that might help.
I was looking for prices , and it don't have any...
But I did find an addy, its; knfilters.com

Hope this helps
D

Looking at the box for my "K&N performance gold" oil filter.. it is "HP-1002"

It isn't listed by K&N as fitting the X1, but it does. I've used the 1002 filter for the past 10k miles no problems. This filter is only about 3 3/4" long, so may be smaller than what you're looking for.

Cross referenced filters are as follows:

AC PF1245
AC PF1787
AC PF53
BRIGGS 491056
CHAMPION LAB. PH2835
FRAM HP7
FRAM PH3614
FRAM PH6022
FRAM PH7575
FRAM PH9342
FRAM PH9566
KOHLER 5205002
KOHLER 5205002S
MOBIL1 M1102
MOBIL1 MO241
MOTORCRAFT FL793
MOTORCRAFT FL910
ONAN 1220645
PURO L10028
PURO L10241
WIX 51215
WIX 51348
WIX 51391
WIX 51785
WIX 57023
WIX 57181

KN-171B and KN-171c

Both of these filters are 4" long. One is a black finish and one is chrome - noted by the "B" and "C" in the PN#'s. The 1002 filter is white with a K&N decal wrapping around.

Hope this helps.

Have not ever had a filter back off, but it does happen. I use the long H-D filter (don't have the p/n at hand) with no issues. Having read posts about the filter coming loose, I now use a hose clamp around the filter body and run the safety wire to that.

5" long filter for '91-'97 Dyna.
#63890-12 Black
#63890-13 Chrome

In my locale these are 2 bucks cheaper than the short Sporty filters.
