Mine's almost done. Ran into some last minute "challenges". I'll try and figure out how to post pictures once I'm done. Frank |

Might try in the racing section under drag racing--posted pics on there long ago. |

This one's not mine. He is a good friend that owns a shop down the street from mine. This bike gets more passes at a time that my street bike runs. Started as a 2002 X1W. Bike was totaled in a crash, he bought it from the Insurance company and started racing. I still have the original frame at home.

Definitely not an X1 drag bike. That's a drag bike with an X1 engine and front end. |

10.60's sounds pretty good. Does anyone know what a stock x1 or stock with race ecm/exhaust will run? |

Thanks guys…when the motor was in its 10.90 configuration, it would normally run between 10:98 to 10:80 at 122mph, depending on conditions. The engine had a stock bottom end, including the stock X1 cams. It had stock cylinders, ported XB12 heads with stock valves, stock XB9 pistons, and the race air cleaner. I converted it to carburetor and run a 44mm Keihin CV and a force pipe. It ran in that configuration for 3 years. I freshened it up and couldn’t help to experiment a little. I went to Wiseco XB9 pistons and changed the cams to the .575 lift screaming eagle grind. Also did a valve job and installed the screaming eagle race beehive springs. In its current config it will run between 10.80 and 10.60 at 125mph, with a best of 10.58. This is all on 91 octane pump gas. For gearing, I originally ran the stock 35 tooth primary gearing with a 520 21/45 sprocket combo (geared to run through the traps in 4th). I broke the stator shell last year and swapped to the 34 tooth XB9 primary and a 21/42 sprocket combo. The chassis is lowered with a 19” strut, swing arm is 7” over S1 part. I run Pirrelli road race medium D.O.T. on the rear. The bike is foot shifted (gp pattern). Good fun…. |

I guess with the extended swingarm you can keep the front wheel on the ground. I have never raced mine but aggresive launches always send the front wheel skyward. What happens to the handling with the longer swingarm? I can't afford a dedicate "race " bike right now |

the extended swingarm definitely slows down handling, but ni can't really comment as it is lowered with a strut as well and all those things don't help either. It still handles better than some power cruisers i have ridden though. It would be fine cruising the local wallmart, but i don't think it would be too enjoyable at deals gap! You would probably be better off running wheelie bars vs. a long arm if you can't dedicate the bike strictly to drag racing. Here are a few pics of the next bike we are building. it will be 1 1/2" lower than what is shown in the pics:

Wes, Can a clutch/engine sprocket setup from a tuber bolt in to an XB12R? I've got one for sale and was contacted by a buyer asking me if it would work for his 12R. Mine came out of a S3. Thanks, Frank. |

Hey Frank, the front sprocket/rotor and chain will work for sure in a 2007 and down XB. The clutch assembly on an XB is compensated while the sportster/tuber clutch is not, so there is some additional shock loading if he uses it in the XB. I need to check and see if there is a hub height difference....i want to say there is. I have put compensated clutches on tubers but not the other way around. You have to do some light machine work to run the xb clutch on a tuber but i can't remember if it was for a height difference or because of the compensator spring clearance on the backside....will check my notes tonight and get back to you. |
