I belive it is posible to replace the rear carbon fiber fender with a plastic one from another tube frame model. Unfortunetly I do not know wich model to look at. Has any one done this? I'm pretty close to getting mine together but my rear fender has been shreded by the stones in my drive way so I'm looking for a cheaper and more forgiving alternative. TIA

I have done this on my '95. The abs fender I acquired had already been trimmed down. I made a couple of "custom" brackets to get the fender to fit around the 180 tire that munched the carbon fiber original. I am planning to repair the CF fender and reinstall it when the 180 gets replaced with a 170.

I don't recall which model/year my abs fender came from . . .but I am guessing that any from a steel swingarm model could be made to work.

Hope this helps . . .

Don

Hm. I've got what looks to be a black-coated CF fender (I can see green CF poking through the black in a couple spots, but it looks factory-coated) on my '95....and no issues at all with the 180 PR2 on there either. <shrug>

Rat, the 96 fender was coated black over the carbon fiber because the quality had deteriorated badly from supplier.
Any early style swingarm fender will work.

Don, Thanks for the heads up. I looked at a 97' S3 rear fender. It looks plastic but I'm not sure. I only have a 170 on the back so no issues there other than the stones stick to my tires and then rotate up and get wedged inbetween the tire and fender. One cut it in about half about 2/3 the way up. This is my delema. I just wanted to see if any one has changed them out for a newer style.
