I hope to be able to attend. But the S2 engine needs a rebuild before then. Hopefully a quicker project than my Sportster, which is going on five years now. The incentive to finish the one is getting to get after the next.

Mike, it will not be in Breckenridge this year. It will be in Buena Vista Colorado. Buena Vista is also a nice area and not too far from some great rides. I considered Breck for a long time but for many reasons we decided on Buena Vista. Breck is still a favorite summer weekend getaway for Lynn and I.

Sorry,
I saw some of your conversation elsewhere and thought that you were still discussing location.

Do you know if there is any dual-sporting around there? If I trailer out with Brad maybe I'll bring the DR and do that for a couple of days. I keep saying that I need a Uly to explore those gravel roads that go up into the hills.

Mike, I am not sure about the dual sport. I was looking at one of the routes today and had to change it due to unpaved roads. I always see those 4 wheeler ATVs around Turkey Creek Junction on highway 50. As far as Buena Vista itself I am not sure. Lynn and I have been up there for some VFW activities and that is about it. I will be getting up there again around May to check things out.

Two years ago I rode up to Crested Butte from Gunnison. The road goes on up but turns to gravel so that is a good possibility. There are also a couple between that road and Buena Vista that I have ridden parts of. My map shows a lot of little roads off of them.
I always wish that I had a little more time to explore when I'm out there. Maybe this time I can do a bit more.

The event is posted to the Buell web site, twice!!!

Still no posting on when Homecoming will be so hopefully there will not be a conflict. I am trying to get my butt in gear to get some of the planning done. I am really looking forward to seeing all those S2s...

Mike, I'm sorry but you can't bring that abomination to the Round up...
the bike HAS to be an S2, that obviously, is not a Thunderbolt!
Should you bring it anyway, I'll ride behind Bluz. : )

Frank,
Is it June yet? LOL I'm ready for a much needed long distance ride. I'm getting tired of riding 70 miles to find a curve.
I'll be going out with one of the locals today for a short 250 mile loop up through Prescott, and Camp Verde.
It's supposed to be in the mid 70's here today.
I hope all is well in your neck of the woods!

Bart, I have been busier than a in a pecker patch. Things are coming together for the Rally. I was going to work on a schedule today if I get time. I am ready for June and warmer weather.

Lynn and I were planning on riding to Red River NM for the rally in May but I think instead we will explore the area around Buena Vista for some good roads, places to eat and such.

Looks like I will be in the job market again and we are talking about moving to your neck of the woods. Depends on contracts... Frank

Frank,
don't forget i have some Buell bling to donate for the rally.
How is the Uly treating you? it must be tough to put miles on a bike with your weather.
Red River is a great place to ride to when there is NOT a rally going on. Rooms are easier to get, and the roads arn't filled with slow moving Harleys. : )
which area are you looking for contracts? Albuquerque, or Phoenix. Both towns have air bases you can probably find work at.
there is still tons of jobs here in AZ, but you must remember that the riding season ends, the end of May when the temps go over 100 degrees daily. (its like a reverse winter!) And it doesn't drop back below 100 until the end of September.
But the winters are Buelltiful!
If I had a choice, I would most certainly be back in Albuquerque!
Good luck with your search, perhaps you will get lucky and find something closer to home, or better yet, the govt will keep your job.

Bart, it was 60 degrees here today. I put about 100 miles on the Uly. It seems to be very sensitive to cross winds. The front end feels light to me but after a while I got use to it. It is no S2 but it is an easy bike to ride and it handles well.

My company is working a testing contract in Albuquerque at Kirkland. I did testing for a while so we will see how that goes. We also have a prospect with NASA which I would really like but it is on the east coast. Lynn and I would rather stay in Colorado but we are acceptable to moving. We also started some work at WPAFB in Ohio and that would put Lynn closer to her parents. There are a lot of variables to consider. Of course I could also just retire, again.

I spent some time in Tucson, when I was active duty and I noticed that not a lot of people rode in the summer. Too hot. At least in Colorado you can ride all year round save a couple of days. This weekend has been great. The biggest hazard on the roads during the winter is the sand they use for the snow. It stays on the road until the first good rain.

Lynn and I like the Red River rally however it is mostly an excuse to get together with some friends from up North and we do not ride around that area during the rally. We usually head west and enjoy the lack of traffic on the roads.

The most entertainment at Red River is watching the show. We usually stay in a condo on the edge of town and just sit on the balcony and watch the weird stuff that people try to do on bikes.

Ross, I got it earlier this month. I got the cop bags for it.

Its a nice bike and I am happy with it not as classy as the S2 but a very functional platform.

Bart, I had a good conversation with Rex today and I ordered the awards. It is coming together but we will need your help.

Let me know your plans as we get closer. I will be taking a trip up to the area in May over the long weekend to try and find a restaurant that will suit our needs. I was going to reserve the conf room at the hotel but they want 200 dollars so I decided not to do that, yet!

There is a lot of interest in Colorado from non-S2 owners, thanks to HCHD, so while the hotel may not be booked up there may be a lot of tubers, fuelers (XBs) and coolers (1125s) riding with us.

I have yet to make my reservations because I want to give everyone from out of state to have the chance first. The block of rooms will be released 15 May so I will do something around that time.

I am pretty sure I bit off more than I can chew LOL.

Frank,
Let me know what you need, and when you need it and I will do my best to make it so.
As you know, I'm staying south in Salida, it's only about 25 miles down the road. I already have my reservations.
We may be coming up, for a pre-ride on the Uly in May, perhaps we can get together then?

Bart, let me know. We are going to do the same thing. I was thinking the long weekend in May but let me know when you are going to be there.

I was actually thinking of staying in Buena Vista one night to find a suitable restaurant and then heading to Gateway CO the next day and maybe into Moab UT. It depends if Lynn is able to go with me or not.

frank,
the 22nd thru the 25th would be the weekend we were thinking of going.
We would be 2 up on the Uly and may stay in Mancos the first night and buena Vista the second.
All is still up in the air though, awaiting "her" final approval. ; )

(do you know where someone can get a tail light assembly for an S2?) : (

Sorry Bart, if I had an extra tail light it would be in the mail to you already.

For anyone that is planning on attending the S2 Gathering (Roundup in the Rockies) please pm me your email address. I would like to send a draft document of the rides and activities to you. It is a draft form (I still have some stuff to finalize) but it will give you an idea of what will be going on.

At first I thought it was just too early in the morning for me to be thinking hard. But now I'm sure. The location is a secret, right?
Seriously. This thread has risen to the top while the Gathering Thread has archived. This is the place to be, yes?http://www.gatewaycanyons.com/index.php
And I'd like a couple of XL T-shirts, if that's still happening, please.

Thanks Frank. We (my sweetie and I) will be there. And there is here:
http://www.bestwesterncolorado.com/hotels/best-wes tern-vista-inn/. Correct now, yes?
Even if morning fog was the reason for my not finding it, its a good thing to have it on this thread too. Thanks for the link.
I may hit up the collective for routing advice. Down the coast to San Francisco then left, skirting Vegas, to the Grand Canyon, then north, from what I can see so far. Some detours for good twisties along that route are what I may need help to find. We hope to have a week to get from San Fran to there.
