since now i have a 99 s-3 sitting in the garage taking more money than child support. i have read on here that the 99 rear 16.5" showa shock has a recall on it.Do i get it replaced for free or how does that work? | ||

They replaced the rear shock on my '00 X1 last summer for free. No questions asked. Just took about a month or so for them to get it. I think the "Safety" related recall have no expiration date. Of course they may simply run out of the replacement parts and use that as an excuse. | ||

And if they do the recall, What shock do they replace it with, How can you tell if it's a recall shock or the original ?... I wonder if I can get my recalled shock recalled again ? | ||

Well, according to the pictures in the other link, the "replacement" shock should be smaller than the one replaced. I did not know that. I will check my bike when I get home and see what they put in there... Well, I guess the worst case scenario is if they replaced it with a new "bad" shock! | ||

The 99 S3 was not a recall shock. since I own a 99 S3 I had this discussion last month, in person, with the man who was the product manager for the 99 S3, X1 and M2. I'm pretty sure Court will confirm that Scot knows what he is talking about  | ||

I have the 16.5 shock on my 97 M2. It has lost the "shock" part and is now just a spring with a fancy chrome cover. Was wishing for a recall on the recall. | ||

There were far fewer bikes recalled than most folks think. If you were properly registered owner and go some recalls and not others I'd bet that you got all of them (save for a problem with the USPS) that applied to your bike. In addition, it's terribly easy to have your dealer check . . takes only minutes. | ||

i might be the 8th or 9th owner of this wonderful bike that i cant even get to run even with a new engine(money pit).do you think the dealer would know if the shock has been replaced before? what is the recall? bad welds or internals? | ||

T-head If you dont have it running yet I would not worry about it, one of the recalls had to do with issues related to X1 crank balance from Scotts comment above no recall, My 0.02$ get-er runing and sort the other issues as time goes on, [except brakes!] the showa shock is substandard compaired to the rest of the bike plan on replacing it, its my next major item .. | ||

If the shock was recalled, the VIN will have that tag in the system and any dealer can access it. If the shock was replaced under recall, it was logged. That's the only way for a dealer to get reimbursed for the part they just put on a customer's bike for free. Unless there was another recall wave on the replacement shock, one recall replacement is all you get per VIN. PM me your VIN, I'll check it for open recall status. | ||

If you were properly registered owner and go some recalls and not others I'd bet that you got all of them (save for a problem with the USPS) that applied to your bike. I resemble that.I've expected that,for some reason i do not know,i haven't gotten a recalled shock notice due to mine being fine |
