Well, I guess it was my turn to get stranded by the side of the road. Riding home yesterday afternoon the bike started to shake vigorously behind a light and finally died. No engine light or any warnings. Managed to get it to a safe spot and started scratching my head. I was getting no spark on the front cylinder. Spark on the coil but nothing on the other end of the wire. Well, the damn front plug wire had just died without any warning. Ride from the wife and $4.50 later the bike was back on the road. The surprising part was the wire looked perfect from the outside, no cracks, frays, etc. Just instantaneous death. Appeared to be the original wire which lasted for 14000 miles.

The wire failures I've had on my car have ALWAYS been internal failures.

Check the resistance across the ignition wires on an annual basis. It gives you PLENTY of warning before failure.

The way to stop your wiring from doing the wiggle test until it beaks is to TIE WRAP your wiring !!!

If a wire wiggles IT WILL BREAK !!!

I had to call two dealers and one of them had one front wire from a Sportster in stock and it is much longer than the OEM Buell front wire. It got me home and the bike seemed to be running just fine but I will replace both wires very soon.
I find it very strange that they stock all kinds of chromed bells and whistles and T-shirts, jackets, etc., but they never seem to have any "maintenance" items in stock. When my belt broke, I had to wait a week to get one but I had a choice among dozens and dozens of chromed mirrors, foot pegs, grips, etc. Makes no sense to me.

there are a few buell pro wire kits on ebay at the moment. several colors too i think! i tend to love when the bike breaks and its something stupid, not like a front head bolt!

"...i tend to love when the bike breaks and its something stupid.."

I couldn't agree more.
Somehow you feel "happy" at the end even though you got stranded on the side of the road or could have gotten rear ended by a cager, etc., etc., not mentioning the several hours spent getting a ride, picking up the part, etc, etc. I suppose this is what love is all about...
