DAM IT!! first the rear shock is leaking and now the front lower left fork is leaking, What do i need to fix it can i do it my self or do i need to take it to a shop!! I looked a little in the knowledge vault and didn't find much info. I have the FSM and was hoping on some pointers or some do's and dont's. Any while im in there stuff i should look at or re-place like head bearing's. Do i need any special tools? Thanks all! | ||

Well, you don't need to take the triple off to remove the forks. Unless you really want to replace the bearings. Just need to lift the front end high enough to slide them down through. | ||

What Brinn said, Prey, I have a tear down of the forks in the KV ( some where ) , you said that its the lower? and not just the seal? My comments, the uppers are billet and easy to mess up dont drop them. The lower leak is it at the very bottom? or adjustment screw ? the cartridge bolts in with a crush washer like the brake line, banjo. the adjusters if removable have orings. If you have to replace a seal yes you need a seal driver. you may want the adjustable oil leveling tool when you change and top up the oil (Message edited by oldog on February 23, 2009) | ||

It is leaking from the seal not the adj screw, It is coming from where the dust seal is attached to the fork. This all happened when i was riding 3 days ago in 18 degree weather i accidentally wheelied over an intersection that had a crest and i was heavy on the throttle. I noticed the fluid was dark yellow-brown, So i washed the beast up and will watch for more oil. | ||

You will need the following: Seal Driver Spring Compressor Oil Level Tool. It's not a hard job just takes a little time and patience. | ||

Well it is not leaking to bad, Hopefully i can get the tools before it needs it really bad. It only leaked like 2-3 drops and it didn't drip on the ground so it may be OK till i can get the money for the tools. I will check it when i get home, I went for a ride and parked it so i will see if it leaked again!! | ||

You can get away without a spring compressor I just used some tie down straps and a couple of bent nails, The seal driver you will need, its an easy job. | ||

P-B1 consider at least an oil change in the fork assembley, the oil being discolored is a sign that it has been comtaminiated, the oil should be clear, or red, (water, cooking oil or atf) brown is a bad sign. here is a break down from the KV i did some time back. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=3842&post=802080#POST802080 | ||

Hey olddog i am actually going to do the upgraded spring kit from American Sport Bike and do both seals and fresh oil. By the way thanks for the pics they really help! If i can do my own heads and rocker boxes i can certainly do the forks. | ||

Ok another stupid question which fork oil should i use they said they have 2 kinds, Normal or the screaming eagle heavy oil. Any opinions | ||

I wouldn't go over 10wt, the buell stuff is 5wt and 7.5 wt as far as I remember | ||

Dude you buy it to over haul it? every thing that you do now if you do it right is one less thing to deal with later, and one less reason to have to push it home. | ||

this is my first buell. it was my friends but he blew the motor drunk one night. i have always had harleys and thought the buell would be a cool bike.i work for a U.S. automaker and they are not big fans of my jap crotch rocket. |
