I have this X1 that has been put away a few years and I'm thinking about getting it back on the road. I've been out of it for a while, could you guys please point me in the right direction regarding engine modifications that can be done on a 2002 Buell?
Thanks a lot for any input.

That really depends on your budget, you could easily throw several thousand into the engine alone. Mine is completely tore down right now, I mean completely. The cases should be split by weeks end I hope.
The knowledge vault and search option can really be of help here. Post up what exactly what you are looking to gain or expect and you'll get all the help you could ask for.

Thanks for the reply Michael. What are you getting done exactly yourself? I'll do a search to try and figure out my options.
Thanks again

Well, to make a long story short I initially thought I had scrapped an oil pump drive gear so I went ahead and bought some 1250 cylinders off a fellow badwebber and started to tear down since I had to replace the base gaskets anyways...well that wasn't the case and the farther I tore down the worse it got. Come to find out my rod bearings are trashed hence splitting the cases and flywheel work. If it had just been an oil pump gear I would have probably gone with a 1250 and maybe a stage I or II but the head work will have to wait. I am however doing all the preventative and upgrade stuff like the gear and XB rocker boxes and a little cosmetic stuff. I hope to have it all blacked out with the exception of a few aluminum pieces here and there. At this point I just want it to run again.

Hey K-Roc, what is the status of the crank,
are you reworking it or replacing it.

I finally sourced all the big sockets needed to remove everything. Not much need around the house for a 1 3/16 socket sooo...I removed the engine sprocket, clutch basket and transmission last night. I also removed all the bolts and screws that hold the two halves together and decided to call it a night. Once out I will probably rework it as everything that is visible to this point looks good. Most likely end up at the machine shop so they can press everything in and start to rebuild. One question I haven't posed yet and I haven't searched for it but what is used to seal the two halves back together? Is there a certain product to use or is it just gasket sealer or what?

I have been told to use yamabond, but never split the cases myself so I can't verify results.
