Author Message   Buellisticx1 Posted on Sunday, February 22, 2009 - 02:59 pm:        Does anyone know the difference between UNF AND NF TAP?...I would need to know it, because the primary drain plug stripped threads and I want try to chase the threads with a 1/2 20 tap. I have got both in my hands (1/2 20 NF from USA and 1/2 20 UNF from UK) and I realized that the UNF is a little larger in size. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.   Buellistic Posted on Sunday, February 22, 2009 - 07:23 pm:        Quite sure the proper TAP would be a USA NF ... Find a TOOL SUPPLY which will sell TAPS and DIES ... Take your drain plug to them and they will match you up to the proper TAP ...   Jramsey Posted on Sunday, February 22, 2009 - 07:25 pm:        They are completely interchangeable but some differences exist. The principal difference is the depth of the thread and the shape of the root and crest. The U.S. NF threads use a flat crest and roots, the U.K's are rounded which is why the UNF tap measures a little larger in order to be able to accept the flat crested NF bolt threads.   Buellisticx1 Posted on Monday, February 23, 2009 - 02:56 am:        Thanks guys!
