I am just getting my m2 put back together and ready for summer fun. I gave the motor a good does of steroids. I want some input on tires. I had dunflops on last year and it was pretty scary sliding threw the corner on dry pavement. With the motor work I've added almost 40 horse to it and want to be damn shure the tire is ganna stick to the road!!! Let me know what is good. I was thinking either parrelli or metztler?

I ran a set of M3 Metzlers on my Firebolt after giving up on Dunflops.
A lot stickier and a few more miles.

Now I have an 1125R and the OEM Pirelli Corsa IIIs are the shizz.
Two laps on Road America at Homecoming and my rear C strips were gone and the fronts were less than 1/4".
Rear mileage - 6k and 7.1k, front 15k.

i ran a conti force. CRAP. flat spot from hell. and then an m3, better and sticky. but when it gets worn the little bit at the end goes fast. at high speeds/ hehehehe

I was looking threw the drag specialties book and found a pirelli Diablo strada which offers the performance of the corsa3 but has better mileage and better wet road traction. I am gana order a set for my bike and see how they do.

Stradas are OEM for the Uly XT.
Should be a good tire for your M2.

I am running Pirelli Scorpion Syncs on my 2000 M2. Standard on alot of new Buells.

I am in need of a new rear tire...
I'm down to the cords at 4200 miles... The front tire still looks new...
They both are the Dunlop Sportmax Touring radials,that came on the bike...

I was wanting to switch to a tire that got more then 4000 miles , But since my front tire is still pretty fresh, would I be better off to run another Dunlop on the rear, and replace them both with something else when they both are used up ?

I found a replacement tire that is a Dunlop 170/60 ZR 17 D207.
Whats the difference if any in the D207 and the D205 ?
The tire's I have on now are D205's.

Can anyone tell me what the size of the rear axle nut is, I need to remove to take off the rear tire ?
The book says its metric. I know I don't have anything that large to take it off with. I was wondering what size socket or wrench to get.

207's sucked...

I run the 210's, but they take a bit to warm up if you corner hard, they did good in the rain too. But I ride super easy in the rain anyways.

I "think" the rear axle nut is 36mm.....??? That sounds right...or is it 34mm...it's f'in big, sockets in the barn.

Go with the stradas. I had dunflops before on the bike, and they were nothing short of sucky.

Threw the stradas on and it gripped so much better.

I can't get over the price of the 205's. To get one locally, they are running from 230 bucks to 214, Plus the mounting and balancing. For only 4200 miles, thats crazy. I'd love to switch to anything else.

The front tire is new. The original one was dry rotted from setting, so the guy I got the bike from just put this on before I bought it.
Its only got about 3400 miles on it,so I hate to trash it, since my budget is so tight right now...

I can get a Avon tyre locally ,for around 235 plus 35 to mount and balance. I thought about mis matching the rear with the front I have now and changed my mind.

I figured I'd trash another rear Dunflop and replace them both when the time comes...

If you want a long-wearing rear tire that provides good grip in wet and dry without taking out a second mortgage to pay for it, you might consider a Shinko Raven 009. They are made in Korea with Japanese equipment from Yokohama.

I put a set on my Suzuki Bandit 1200, which eats tires like potato chips, and all is well.

They are just over $120 at most shops.

I've got a Continental Road Attack rear with maybe a couple thousand miles on it in 170/60 I'd be happy to get out of my garage for cheap if you'd like to try it (the low cost lightly used rear would offset the expense of having to get a new front).

Maybe $40 bucks or so, if it's a lot to ship I could come down in price.

The profile is different than the D205 and I'd recommend not mixing them, the Conti's are more responsive than the Dunlops and stick much better.

Thanks guys. I found a new Dunlop 205 just like the one I have now for 95 shipped, on e-bay.
I hope it and the front wear out about the same, then I can ditch them both and try something else.

Brinnutz the rear axel nut is a 36 mm.

Soon as the tire and the swing arm stand arrive, I'll be on the road again.

I got the swing arm stand and the new tire for less then anyone around here wanted for just the tire.

Only trouble is...
I have to wait to get them , and I doubt if I have a warranty on the tire.

I found a place that will balance and mount it for 15 bucks if I bring in the wheel.
So I guess all in all time is worth something...

This is my 1st tire...Think I'll name it buttkiss...lol

No burnouts, just wear. I was up at Laconia last year and stopped to see a friend (also a former parts guy at the HD/Buell dealership in Meredith) who has a '96 S1. (He told me about the '98 S1 that I ended up buying) He mentioned that my rear tire was getting pretty bald. When I got home and was pushing the M2 into the barn I saw the cords showing through. That's when I took the picture.

I run a triple compound (so I'm told) Battlax BT-054 on the rear that is pretty hard-wearing in the middle but a little stickier towards the outer edge.

Then on the front I run a Battlax BT-015 which is a softer compound than the rear and gives that sure-footed confidence wet or dry.

The bike came with Dunlops but I was going through 2 rears to every 1 front.

I got both Battlax's for AU$472 fitted and balanced. Tyres For Bikes, Gore St. Albion, QLD.

The new Conti's are supposed to be as good as the Pilots, seems like they scored better stick and wear.

I may try the Pilot Road 2's for my next set but need to read the reviews first. I really like the Scorpion Syncs though.

IMHO, Pirelli makes the best motorcycle tires. Stick better, look cooler, and have more "unique" points (less people I see on the street run them).

The June Sport Rider showed in the mail today, there is a favorable review of the Pilot Road 2's, they ran them on the new Kawi Concours 14 and thought they held on well and wore well too.

...kinda cool looking tread design too...

I ran Diablo Corsa IIIs and got 5K rear and 9K+ on the front, though it needs to be changed now. I got about the same mileage out of the Dunlops (402s IIRC) that were new on it when I got it, but the Pirellis hold to a better degree at full lean ; ). I plan on trying the Diablo Rossos or the Scorpion Syncs next.

Im running Pirelli Diablo Rossos and love them. They're nice and sticky and appear to be wearing well. Not sure on the longevity, first set of tires on the bike.

I think I paid 260 for the set balanced, but my tire guy had a killer deal going on at the time.

The Scorpion Syncs handled some of the wettest conditions I have dealt with. I did a ride with some buddies down to Mt St. Helens and back to Seattle. I-5 had about an inch and a half of water and traffic was throwing spray like you wouldn't believe. Anyhow, I never had to worry about the traction. Damn the the M2 has to be the best bike there is..

I was reading a Fuell magazine back in November (at Frank Skinner's house) and there was a guy on a Uly, that had the stock Pirelli Scorpion Syncs on it, who rode 5,500 miles from Alaska to Florida. I don't remember much about the article other than I was green with envy : D.
