going by the the book you want the rear axle adjusters equal on both sides, right? what about the old string method? which is more critical? here is a link if your not familiar with it.any comments would be greatly appreciated. the reason i brought this up is because my bike is not aligned by just doing the equal on both rear adjuster thing.

by the way jackstands help hold the front of the strings so you dont have to move them.

i would use the axle adjusters, then double check/fine tune using the string/laser method.

well of course, i also use a micrometer on the axle adjusters. but it should still be double checked with the front.

The adjuster spec is critical to BELT longevity, IF the Isos and tie bars are in good order the wheels are aligned, assuming that the rear is square to spec.

as the bike is actualy two pieces, the engine, swingarm, rear wheel are one the front end and the tube frame are the other.

well on my 99s-3 the front end is 2" off center.can this be adjusted moving the rear half of bike over(engine, swingarm and rear tire)?is this done with the front mount? i just got this engine in a couple weeks ago maybe i didnt put the front mounts back in the same place.doesnt the long bolt that goes through the swingarm also go through the frame?

T-head
back up several stepps, whats been apart?

1. are the tie bars back where they go?
2. are the isos back where they go
3. are the swing arm pins flush to the mount?
4. did you remove the front engine mount
5. did you remove the top engine mount

My guess #4 you had the mount off and you reversed the original cast mount moving the motor off center

OR

the frame is BENT!

i had the motor/tranny off the bike. left the front and rear end on.left the tie bars hanging from the frame.the front mount only fits one way on the 99 s-3, reversed you cant mount the air box.front and rear wheels are centered.i wouldnt be surprised if the frame had a little twist to it. forks are straight, triple tree looks good.lets say i need to compensate for a bent frame....would the tie bars give me that adjustment?

If you have your FSM
the manual says not to adjust them.

the isolators and the tie bars hold the two pieces together,

the isos form a triangle 2 at the bottom on the swing arm mount, one at the top on the head mount. there are 3 or 4 tie bars,
front by front motor mount, by the oil filter, one between the heads, one in the back on the swingarm mount block,

the rest is hoses and wires,
to get the front wheel 2" off center some thing is bad wrong....

lets say the frame has a little "tweek" to it. how would you deal with that? what if i had to offset the rear wheel more than .015" at the swing arm? this is an old used bike and has not had the best life with previous owner. i just dont want to have any issues when i get this thing on the street.i am looking forward to riding my buell, ive seen them on the road and cant wait to ride one.i am so close!

If my frame was "tweeked" I'd scrap that sucker and find a chopper builder who has a replacement!
