Test rode an S2 at the dealer yesterday. Ran good and everything worked well but I have one question. It had really strong vibes under 3K on the tach. I remembered after about a mile to keep it above 3K but even then it was a bit rougher than my cyclone back in '98. The M2 was perfectly smooth at speed but the S2 still had some vibes coming through. Is this normal or may there be something that needs to be repaired? I'm really thinking about buying this bike.

Miles on the bike?

Could be rear isolator time. Not a big deal on the S2 as the sideplates are detachable. Did mine right after I got it a couple years ago (17k miles) and it smoothed it right out.

And/or front isolator. I have found a bad front one will make more vibration that the rear isolators but that is just seat of the pants testing and not valid data. Regardless, I would replace all at the same time. I am getting ready to replace all isolators on the S2T.... and then the S1W...

Went and check out the bike again today and also got my free Buell air pressure gage! The front isolator looks like it is torn around the center and has chunks missing around the edge. The rears look OK but are offset in the hole. The bike shows 4400 miles but looks like it has sat outside at some time. the carbon fiber is discolered and the muffler is showing some rust on the end. They said they would take 4K out the door without me even asking the price. I am tempted.

The front iso is toast, not a big deal to replace.
The rears are always offset, you need to inspect them closely for damage.

4K is a bit high, offer them 3500 and see if they bite.

Ditto on the 3500. Seems like you could get the isolator(s) changed as part of the deal. They may be concerned enough about a liability issue that they'll change the front anyway. If you need any gear (or tires)negotiate a break on that while you're at it.
