i bought a spy cable and thought i could just download the contents of a disk and have a race module, nope............is there anyone willing to help out a bueller and walk me through it.i have no clue.i bought the x1 lightning with a bad race ecm so i was told to buy a stock one and tune it.i dont know where to start.thanks rob in sacramento........................... | ||

Robert, just buy a good race ecm off of ebay and set your TPS and be done. Tuning with ECMSpy requires a dyno or data logging. To do all that you're going to have to spend some serious bucks. Just find a good race ecm and forgettaboutit. Frank. | ||

+1 on the race ECM, That and VDSTS is all you'll need. The Spy program is too involved for a DIY tuner. However in the hands of the right guy with a dyno it's a great tool. | ||

thanks for the feedback on the ecm spy im too far in to turn back and buy the pre programed race module so im on a mission to track down someone that can tune.your right i should of bought the race ecm and been done............ | ||

Bought with a Bad race ECM? Whats your bike doing? Or not doing? What symptoms? WHY ARE YOU NEEDING A NEW ONE? I have been down the road of switching parts to find a problem, I.E. shot gun the bike with parts. Now the good folk here at badweb set me straight a couple of times, Read there advise. | ||

when i took it to the stealer the previous owner had to splice in the ground on the ecm so i was told to replace that it had an internal short........ | ||

it was sputtering and the fuel pump was running constantly because of the ground being permanantly spliced to the frame.........its an x1 99 with mods pipe intake cam lifters ect not sure whats in it but i took the cover off and seen jims push rods so i figured there was some work done............. | ||

Robert, save yourself hundreds of dollars and buy one on ebay or you could contact some of the site sponsors here on the Badweb. You will spend at least 400-500 with someone tuning your bike with a dyno. Provided you have a good ecm. This won't do you much good if you haven't made any serious mods. You have a mostly stock bike. All you need is the ecm and the tps reset. It's the best and easiest route. I've got two '99's and have been riding and wrenching on Buell's for 10 years. | ||

Um i hope you don't mean the little hole in between the 2 main connectors of the ECM if so that is for the xb model exhaust servo control and should not be grounded to anything. The xb ECM has this feature but the ecm will work for both bikes tubers and xb's, Now if you have a new ecm and the bike is sputtering you have another problem that is not ECM related! The ECM has no external grounds if you look at it it is all plastic how can it ground, All grounding is done in the wiring of various parts of the bike. Go into the knowlage vault and read up on this. I think you have a different problem. Hope this helps | ||

you can just download the contents of a race ecm into a stock ecm. But you can't just swap the fuel and ignition maps. The entire eeprom must be reflashed. I can email one to you if you like. I use the ecmspy... data logging doesn't cost money, it just takes a lot of time, and understanding the program is a must. (Message edited by creature_x1 on February 03, 2009) | ||

In addition to the ability to "tune" fuel and ignition maps, the ECMSPY also allows you to run diagnostics and clear trouble codes among other things. I went down the path Creature_X1 suggested after switching the exhaust and the air filter and my '00 X1 is running so much better now without even lifting a wrench. It also depends on how much you enjoy fiddling around with with your bike the "electronics" way. It took me a little while to get comfortable with the program and learn how to use it but now I think the folks who built the ECMSPY program made the biggest contribution to the Buell community. |
