Forgive my ignorance, as I tried to understand, and ask, but didn't quite get the answers I was looking for.

I purchased from eBay, an XB Swingarm Bearing, part no. E0006.02A8

Ok, everyone has been telling me that all the steering head and swingarm bearings are the same (well, the XB's are sealed, yadda yadda).

Anyhow, what I'm trying to ask is, why is this a radial type bearing (the XB bearing I've just received), where as the steering head bearing a tapered type bearing (the stock one).

This makes no sense to me, and can someone please give me the part numbers on the side of the newer, sealed bearings (NOT DEALER NUMBERS, I want to get them as cheap as possible from a bearing place) that would fit:

A) 2002 M2 Steering Head

B) 2002 M2 Swingarm Bearing (Aluminum style)

I have asked a few times, but not gotten these numbers. I can't really continue until I have these bearings, so until then, my project is kaput. I took my stock steering head bearings to the bearing house around here and I asked for a sealed type of bearing, so he came out with one that had a big ass plastic shield (not anything like this XB one I just received a few minutes ago). Oh, and that place wanted $18 for it...Thanks

I don't know what the difference between the xb or the M2 bearings are. It sounds like they might not work. I called Al from www.americansportbike.com and he sent me the correct ones for my S1 (I think the M2 is same). Al will know.

Both mine were the tapered type and I don't know if they have a sealed one available or not.

Sorry not too much help

Ok...I'll call Al.

Maybe I misread what all were telling me.

Is it that the tuber swingarm and steering had bearings are the same as just the XB steering head bearings?

I have not a clue.

I found a set of XB steering head bearings on ebay for 15...I might just get the pair....who knows.

Ok, so I'll need 4 of these right?
E0002.02A8A

I need to know the model numbers of those so I don't have to pay 18 a piece, even with 20% off.

Ok, nobody updated their steering head bearings to the XB sealed bearings?

Brin
The tapered bearings are superior in every way except convience, I suggest that you read through Josebuell's posts on the swing arm change its a little involved
VS just changing bearings,

From what I have gleaned here on BW the sealed bearings are not holding up that well on the steering heads of the Ulys'

they are not holding up that well as wheel bearings, even the HQ parts that I get from AL.

I updated the grease and maintence schedual on mine ( timken ) and they have been in service for 4 years now. no issues.

the issue with the tuber swing arm ( CAST )
is that it is open inside and water can get to the bearings ( the seals are flimsy too. ) again good water proof grease and lots of it with new seals

Are you going to cut the frame and install a XB shock like Jody?

Well, I'm not planning on an XB swingarm yet. I'm just trying to find replacements for my stock bearings right now, and the best ones.

I have not a clue what I'm doing, so this is all greek to me.

Brin follow the link I posted

head and arm bearings are not hard to replace, the link has the timkin number for the tapered roller bearing, and "cup" its not likley that you will find a replacement ball bearing that will fit and take the load.
