Hi all,
I have an issue. I put my 01 M2 on the lift because I have a loud noise coming from the right side. Can't tell if it's grinding or what. It's only there when I'm in motion and after a block or so. I put it on a lift to run it in place so I can do some snooping. Now this is a couple of months of non-running. She started up fine but as soon as I put her in gear, BLAM through the tailpipe and she shut down. I let it run for a few minutes more and tried it again. Same result. I get a backfire and then stall. Tried keeping the revs high and feathering the clutch. Same result. Can't run it in gear. Any ideas?

Check the kickstand switch if it was up...
Better yet, jumper it and make it go away...

Either your kickstand is down, or, if it's up, the sidestand switch is shot.

Whats the deal with that kick stand switch, mine works sometimes. And most the time it don't.

I notice the 1st time I got gas, I kicked the kick stand down, and it shut off my bike.
I thought "wow thats cool"

Most the time it don't any more. But it hasn't caused me any other trouble far as the bike running.
I would be interested in reading how to make it "Go Away" as Bluzm2 stated. Can you just unplug it ?

The ignition power goes through the kick stand switch. If it becomes intermittent, you can replace it or unplug it and jumper the wires from the harness together thus bypassing the switch and its safety feature.

Of course, if you bypass it and the next time you leave with the kick stand down and try to make a left hand turn, don't blame me if you go out of control!

Didn't know that about the kickstand.
Jacked it up today, put UP the kickstand and it ran in place just fine.
The drive belt seemed a little loose so I tightened it a bit. Noise is coming from the transmission. Looks like I'm paying someone.

Quick and easy check, lean over the seat, weighting it, and reach down and pull up on the belt, you should just be able to pull it up so it touches the bottom of the swingarm.

Any tighter and it is probably too tight.

I would wager this is within a gnats ass of the method posted in the link above.

Lots of belts fail for being too tight, I have yet to hear of a belt actually fail for being too loose.

Might help to Pull up on the swingarm, to compress the swingarm a bit extra, especially if your not gravitationally enhanced like me. It is important to find the tight spot, and compress the suspension enough to get it at it's tightest...

The ignition power also travels through the clutch lever, and the neutral switch.

I've had a neutral switch go bad which killed the bike any time I tried letting it idle while on the kickstand and without the clutch lever pulled. You should be able to notice a bad neutral switch with your gage cluster though. The tranny will physically be in neutral, but the indicator light doesn't come on when the switch is bad.
