Well I'll be tearing open the primary to replace the clutch sometime this next week (getting the Barret's 9/8 one from AS), and am wondering if there's anything else I should do in there. Bike only has 8.5k on it, but fluids were LOW and very dirty when I got it. I remember reading something about replacing the stock primary chain tensioner, is it worth it? Do I need to replace anything other than the clutch plates, maybe some snap rings, and the various gaskets? After this I have to figure out what to do about the pogo stick, I mean conical showa I have on the back |

Upgrade the primary chain adjuster with #39975-90A, it has a thicker base plate for the nylon shoe cost about $23.00. While you at the dealer get a 34955-89A metal backed primary gasket which is reusable. No cheap solution for the shock problem. |

It there are deep groves worn into the plastic of the adjuster the chain has been or currently being adjusted TOO TIGHT !!! 3/4 inch on the chain tight spot is correct adjustment, the factory service manual is "WRONG" !!! |

I've already got all that other stuff on my list, got the money and I'm going to start ordering parts today . I meant specific things in the primary, thanks for the gasket and adjuster pn's, I'll be getting those as well. Would the penske from Al be my best option? Or maybe an original tuber shock? It's the 16.5 conical showa with the straps thats on there now. |

Penski or works, If I had the bread the showa would be washed and put in a box for return (of the bike) to stock condition (some day) Other wise the stock showa is a paper weight and only marginaly better than a strut for holding the rear wheel up. (Message edited by oldog on January 30, 2009) |
