Looking to replace the clock on my 2000 S32, and some of you might recall that I was thinking about a voltmeter to fill the hole. I'm now thinking that an oil pressure gauge might be a better idea, and I'm going to go electric, as I don't trust a mechanical sender. The question du jour is: What is the thread size of the fitting that goes into the engine for the warning light? I'm thinking 1/8-27 NPT might be about right, but I'll need to know for sure before I order the sending unit. Anyone know?

Bradley:I used mechanical oil pressure kit,you get all + more fittings you need.I also put pipe you get in kit in rubber vac hose by slitting hose then inserting oil pipe inside then taping then routing with elec. ties to frame.Mechanical oil pressure more accurate than elec.I have on my S2T,S3, 9 yrs,6 yrs.Use 100 lbs gauge.Elec. gauge is just on or off.

Ebutch: VDO makes a really nice 0-80 psi oil pressure gauge (white face) and electrical sending unit to match. I just don't feel comfortable with an oil tube coming out of a vibrating engine, running up a frame tube, and then being subject to the back-and-forth and up-and-down movement of the forks. I can just see the hose failing at any point along the way, and oil dumping out of the engine. It just seems to me to be more prudent to go electrical. In fact, I believe that this sender even allows the use of the oil warning light along with the gauge. Notwithstanding your exceedingly good fortune with a mechanical gauge, I'm not so daring.

I use frame for routing to instriment dash. Sun has white face gauges too.

I have my oil pressure gauge mounted on the hole on the right side of the frame just below the tank so that the hose is not subjected to any more flexing than occurs. This keeps the line tucked behind the oil filter and pushrod tubes and am running soft copper rather than plastic tubing. I would love to have the gauge on the dash but envision the tube cracking near the steering neck.

I did the hd electric you can pipe the sender and the switch to the filter mount,
most electric senders on the market are 1/4" male pipe the switch is 1/8" pipe

I used a street elbow, tee and various nipples / couplers get an assortment fit it dry then tape and soft compound it if you don't back up any fittings its trouble free, I posted it up some time ago, I would consider the VDO setup as it is less money the HD unit ( my dash is made to fit these ) they are a bastard size and the gauges are not available as seprate items, I had temperature too. 100$ to replace =(

one note be careful of the aluminum threads at the filter mount as these are soft vs Brass or steel

OK, here's the skinny: Asked one of the Buell techs at Lake Erie HD, and he graciously went to the parts guy, got a new sender, unwrapped it and measured it for me. The answer, in case anyone else wants to do the conversion, is 1/8-27 NPT.
