I have become aware of a very important project involving and S2 and I think I am going to need some help and thought I'd poll some of the old time S2 Thunderbolt owners for a bit of their talent and time. The first thing I am needing is a set of saddlebags for a good ol' 1996 S2. Anyone got any sources or clues as to where we might wander upon a set? In a nutshell, this is an S2 that belongs to a surviving spouse of an avid rider who lost his life on a motorcycle. The project involves restoring the S2 (the S2 was not the crashed bike) that he so loved. I'd take any help or suggestions I can get. Great chance for the S2 community to do something special. I will certainly keep an eye out for a spare set. The only S2 spare I have right now is a scratched/slightly cracked Black Sapphire tank cover...let me know if that helps any. | ||

I foolishly bought a single saddlebag with a Parkway blue (I think) lid. They look as if they've never been on a bike. No key, though. | ||

I'd take any help or suggestions I can get If you are doing a complete restore (frame off so to speak) then get plenty of zip lock bags and tape to label every thing. I use the tape for larger items like brake lines etc. It also helps to take pictures to determine how things go back together. I usually end up with a few piles of parts; stuff to be replaced, stuff to be cleaned or painted and the other parts are bagged, tagged and placed in a safe place (big box). It is hard to find someone to do Buell body work but for the S2 anyone that is good with corvettes will be good with the Buell fiberglass. It is all in the prep. As far as the Buell decals, take pics and measurements for proper placement later. Taking a look around the garage I have a complete set of body work save the bags and bag mounting system. I have brakes (front and back) original rotor in sad shape, a never used dash, S2T bars and maybe a tach. Of course I have many small odds and ends but I really can't remember everything. Some things I replace regardless of condition are all bearings, isolators, dust covers, belt, tires, wheel bearings, brake pads, brake fluid, rebuild the carb (replace cables), rebuild the brakes, replace intake seals and other items that normally wear out. The S2 is a very easy bike to rebuild. It is all about taking your time and waiting for parts. It is a load of fun, except for waiting for parts. Court - I also had a thought. Depending on where the bike is, I'd be happy to lend a hand, wrench, whatever. I do have a full set of (mismatched) saddlebag lock cylinders for S2 if they're needed. I might even have a set that matches, I'll have to look. | ||

ROAD TRIP!!! Hell yeah. Get all the parts together, everything other than paint (it has to dry, takes 'too long'), and we could have a "Home Makeover - S2 Edition"  I've got hand tools, Pit Bull stands, shop manual, and a password for parts lookup online. I can bring "shop beer" too...if I *have* to, lol. Who else is in, and whatcha got? Don't worry Court - not assuming it'll happen this way. But...wouldn't it be cool? | ||
