Well, it finally happened. I got deep into the Monterey hills when my bike started handling like a pogo stick.

Made it back to Monterey Co Harley, they looked at and agreed. It's shot. They said, there was a possibility of getting another recall on it, since they have some shocks in stock. Turns out they cant do it. They need money. $250 uninstalled., $400 installed.

$250 sounds fair enough right? My concern is that it'll just fail again. I love this bike and don't ever plan on selling it, but I also want to ride it, not dump money into it.

Which shock should I get? Is the "stock", "fixed" from HD worth it in the long run? Is it cheap enough to justify getting my bike back on the road now, then worrying about it in a few years.

BTW it is an S1W, I need to change my profile info. Again, I've been busy riding.

Thanks in advance. Cheers!

buy a Penske or Works Performance and you don't have to think about it anymore...

Pretty easy to install yourself, $250 is an excellent price for a new unit - way cheaper than $900+.

But if you can afford to upgrade.... I'm with them.

You might be able to score one on Ebay too.
The copper'tards don't use the rear suspension.

Make sure you get the correct length one for your bike though.

Hi
I have a 2000 X-1 the rear shock started leaking on the final ride before the snow.(recall had been done)I spoke to the dealer to price a replacement, they called the Harley Canada (Deeley Canada). The dealer could not price the shock,as usual the part was discontinued. Deeley gave the impression that if there was a problem with the recall it maybe warranty. No luck I ordered a stock replacement $400.00 canadian.

So the "new" shock is not covered under regular parts warranty?
How long did yours last?

+1 on the Works/Penske upgrade. I have one of each (Penske on S1W, works on S2) and the nicest thing about 'em is, they're user-rebuildable if they fail or leak.

I am the third owner, the bike sat on the show room floor till 2003(good for me).First owner put 2500km (1500 miles)second 10500 km.I put it up to about 13000km.The recall was done before it was sold so no warranty.Buells are staring to get a little more popular now, they were price too high back in 2000.

I have both. A works shock on my M2, and the regular Buell shocks on the other two. So far, all are working fine. REX

If I can get 10yrs of use I would be happy and also a dreamer. We will see how long it lasts.Daytona is coming and I have no time to locate an aftermarket or twice the cost.Sourcing parts in Canada for Buell is difficult cross border is costly unless you pick up.Next time I am sure there wont be any factory shocks available.

Call Works Performance, ask for Randy.

He'll ship to you no problems. They ship worldwide.

They just had a new shock for a Tuber on eBay for 590 or cheaper. I can't remember.
