I need some pictures of an '01-'02 X1 chin fairing left side hardware. There seems to be some confusion at the dealer regarding what can be used from '99-'00 on a '01-'02. When the shifter changed late 2000-2001 the mounting hardware was changed. If someone could shoot a couple of shots of your chin fairing hardware (shifter side) I would really appreciate it. Please send pictures to md80drvr@nctc.com. thanks, Frank.

"OR" could it be that they only have Harley-Davisdon Parts personal ???

I've got the same problem. The 01+ Buell shifter hardware doesn't seem to match up with the hardware on my 2000 X1 chin fairing.

For now I'm using some canibalized banke parts to make it fit.

The VERY non-helpful directions that came with the shifter kit almost make it sound like you need to use some parts from the old boomerang shifter.

O.K. for inquiring minds, I've spoken with Al at American Sport Bike about this. He has had trouble more than once with the dealer regarding this issue. Apparently the parts book is wrong. I simply need pictures to send to Al so that we can figure out what is usable from '99 and what's needed. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Frank.

My '02 is all in pieces at the moment so I can take pics of the shifter/fairing bolts tonight if you want.

BTW I've always had trouble with a little oil leak where the bolt that goes through the gear lever meets the primary cover. There is no seal between the spacer and the cover, is that right?

Graham, the leak you describe is because the primary gasket is going bad.

The oem paper gaskets are notorious for seeping around that bolt hole.

Both my bikes have no leaks or seeps since I replaced with the updated laminated gasket #34955-89A.

My bolt kept coming out because of the oil. So i brake cleaned the hole out and got locktite on it and so far so good.

Ok, so the primary cover gasket seals that hole between the prim cover and the crankcase?
I have one of the updated gaskets, just haven't got around to putting it in yet. Thanks for the tip : )

Yeah, '99 won't work on that. All mine is is two of that last bolt. A long torx screw with that approx. one inch alum. spacer.

Bravo Graham, YOU DID IT! Thanks from a fellow badwebber. You're great! Now how's that X1 registry coming along?

OK guys let me see if I understand this correctly...
Are we talking about the "upgraded" 01-02 shifter kit Part# 49092-01Y and are we saying that it will not work on a 99-00 X1 (with chin fairing)?
This was going to be my next purchase...

Kalali, that's exactly right. That's the problem I'm trying to solve right now with American Sport Bike. The newer shifter assembly needs the newer mounting hardware to work on a '99-'00 X1 or any other tuber that you want to use a chin fairing on.

Seems kind of pointless that the 01+ shifter UPGRADE kit requires mounting hardware from an 01+ bike.

But yes, that is the case. The upgrade kit DOES NOT include the pieces that mount against the primary cover and through the chin fairing. As nearly as I can remember that's the only difference.

Thanks folks for the info.
The problem must be with the piece on the longer bolt because the spacer on the shorter bolt is already there between the fairing and the cover.
I am also a bit surprised because I thought there were quite a few people who had done this "upgrade" with no trouble.
I hope this story has a happy ending...

Glad the pics helped : )

X1 registry... I haven't gone anywhere with it, waiting to see what happens with Jos51700's register site... But if there's enough interest, hassle me a bit and I'll get my act into gear : )

I bought an 01 shifter upgrade KIT from a dealer several years ago and put it on my 99 X1. You may still be able to get one if you ask around.

This was a kit that Buell put together, not the dealer. There's a Buell part number for it. I don't know what it is unfortunately.

Wow. I'm surprised it's still on the Buell web site given its age. It would stand to reason that they are still available.
