I know that it comes down to taste but i am wondering which is the better bike. Kinda a pro vs. con. As I see it the S3 has advantage in power, slight advantage in fuel capacity. I think mpg is a wash. The S2 has "soul" and is sexier. The S2 seems more unique. Others' thoughts?

The "PLUS" that "i" see in the S2/S2T is they are more SPORTSTER orinentate'ed as in PARTS ...

ie: ONE have 1 inch handle bars ...

It is easy to up-date engine to the 2002 Model year stuff ...

ie: Heads/Cams !!!

The S2T is hands-down the better looking. Subjectively, the S3 has more power, bigger front fairing, better latching bags, and slightly more fuel yes, and if you have small hands or preference, the 7/8" bars are a plus. S2 on its side has a lot of prestige because of its unique pieces, like brembo and PM calipers, clip-on handlebars, Harley controls, tank cover (makes repaints easier), carbon fiber hugger and belt guard, Marchesini or PM wheels, carbon fiber hamcan, fully adjustable WP ROMA forks, and did I mention easily accessible rear isolators? The S2T is hands down IMO the most prestigous bike of it's time and one of all time.

What are the mpg numbers between the two? I need a bike that does it ALL. I was fine on my S2 (longest trip was anout 450 in a day i think, could have gone farther easily). Been on a S3T a few times a while back. I can't justify having both, going to have to decide. I keep going back and forth though. I know either will make me happy (ANY bike would right now) but wondering which will make me happier.

If it's possible to own both then it's justifiable. I'd own one of each if I could afford 'em!

For me it's just the other way round: S2 = 50mpg, S3 (with small cases and mostly 2 up) 45 mpg. Both stock except muffler. S2 is a diva, S3 a reliable work horse. If you want to tour 2up, do take the S3. IMO

I get about 50 MPG with my S3, well over 200 miles between fillups without getting too close to empty.
