Ok, since I was updating the S2 owners list and Easy Rider started the S3 Owners list here is the S1W owners list. Send your inputs to me at f_skinner@yahoo.com.
application/vnd.ms-excel
S1W Owners (12-01-08).xls (38.9 k)

Moderators: I do not know if this will be a viable list but if it is maybe we need a section for "Owners List". The RR, RS and RSS list was short lived but that might have been since it was in a regular thread and fell off the radar scope. Just a thought.

Thanks, Frank

I'd be happy to start and look after an X1/X1W list if there's enough interest (and I'm not stepping on anyone's toes).
cheers,
chili

Thanks John, got you added

For all that are considering doing a list I should say something. If you noticed the data fields in the spreadsheet, I have email and full VIN. Just like the info I collect for the S2 list. I do not publish this info on the site or post it anywhere. It just stays on my system and is for reference more than anything else. I ask that everyone else do the same because a lot of people (me for one) do not like that info put on the Internet for all to see.

Thanks, Frank

Thanks Frank. I'll be honest, I haven't done anything like an owners register before, but I'm willing to learn and make sure I take the appropriate steps with owners information.
My own interest in X1's is I'm curious how many made it overseas, and how many of the limited editions (Racing Stripe/Millenium/Carbon/White Lighting) are still around.

Lemonchili_x1, it is a great idea. As the Buell production numbers got higher and higher it could be a monumental undertaking for sure. The S2 list got to be a bit much for me at first. It has calmed down a bit and is easier to manage.

The S2 list was started way before my time here and a few dedicated people really got it going. It has gone through high and low activity.

As far as the X1s I say go for it and see what happens!

About a year ago I ran into this problem with the S2 list and Ebutch. I think Ebutch was able to download a Excel reader for free allowing him to view the spreadsheet. I need to check into it. I will try a HTML format. Frank

Frank - I'd add, between frame color and body color, a field for wheel color and/or wheel option (i.e. PM's).

<sigh> now I need to go *back* out to the garage, and get the build date for ya : )

Not a bad idea.

I have the .XLS spreadsheets from the builds listing every one ever built. I can't share the sheets but would be happy to suggest some columns if it will help. Wheels, types and options, were included.

There's a buddy of mine here in town who has an S1W, but he's not on here.

Last I knew he was thinking of selling it.

Thanks Joe and Court. I decided to add that field last night but between emails from work and trying to get caught up on the BadWeb I forgot and went to bed. I will add wheels and options. The comment section will be for upgrades, performance etc...

Brin, might be a good way to get your buddy on the site by letting him know that the status of the S1W is more than a donor for choppers. I will be more than happy to add him to the list.

When I got ready to buy an XB I had the opportunity to visit the factory. Our tour guide (Mr. K Rogers) asked me to email my VIN to him when I got the bike. I did as Kenny requested and he sent me a pdf file of the Build Sheet. That was very cool and it gives you a sense of the dedication Buell employees have on their product and the consumers of their product.

That would be a great thing to have for the older Buells as they reach a "desired bike" status.

My point being is there is a lot of neat information on the Build Sheet. In car circles this would roughly equate to the sales slip in the window that shows all the options the car has. Of course the one I got from Buell shows the station, the time at the station, what was done. Very detailed and informative. We will not have that level of information on our tubers, (please do not call BMC and ask for a build sheet for your ten year old bike!)

I am hoping the numerous owners list will become an information source for perspective owners, current owners and people that are just curious.

One of the things that have always bothered me about the S2 Owners list is that I don't have the time to do as detailed a job that I want to. The fact that I do not have a lot of info about my 96 S2T bothers me while on the other hand, thanks to the previous owner, I have a crap load of info on my 95 S2. At least with the Owners List there will be some record in cyber space concerning the particular bike. The fact that the bike had blue rims vice white ones would be very important to me and I am guessing other owners as well. I was playing around with a price field as well. New Price, Used price and maybe listing the Dealership the bike was originally purchased from. Let me know what you all think. If you have any other ideas on fields and information that you think is relevant please let me know.

I just got notified that my position is being converted to Civil Service or deleted altogether, either way come next Oct I will be out of a job. I may have a lot more time to work on this than I expected.

Frank,

Does that mean that you MAY get rid of your WHITE LIGHTNING???

If so... I CALL DIBS on buying it... it needs to stay in the family.

Good luck on finding a new job.

Matt, I have thought about the line up if the worse case happens and its the XB, the 95 S2, the S1W and thats it. The 96 S2T is my keeper. SO when the XB and the S2 sell I will let you know...

I am lucky, I have 10 months to find something else. Unfortunately since I work for a very small company (12 employees) I need to have an active contract to bill hours. I have a couple of choices and have discussed some options with my CEO. We stand to loose half of our company to this conversion and we are in the same boat as every other DoD contractor in this area.

Looks like I maybe moving once Lynn is finished with her Graduate Degree. Even if I get a job in another area I will need to thin the fleet down a bit and might have to sell Lynn's bike... don't tell her that!

I am not worried about it and have not enjoyed my job since I retired from the military so this may be the push I need to try something totally different..

Frank

I have touched on this a lot in the S3 owners thread. There are alot of ethical consideration that need to be made while you do this type of thing, IMO.

BTW, cars (at least Chryslers) got build sheets, and typically got more than one, as they went down the assy line. It's considered a "find" these days. I remember throwing mine away before i knew what it was. : (

I doubt seriously they're on file anywhere.

The Mopar buildsheet is usually attached to the underside of the back seat, and goes with the vehicle (I have all of mine). They track option breakouts and popularity on a production spreadsheet (I have one I got from Ma Mopar for my one-of-26-built 1991 Dodge Daytona Competition Package car), but nothing that pertains to a particular vehicle exists anywhere except with that vehicle. I doubt if Buell has anything on file from the ol' tuber days...

Mopar has "some" of these records, depending on year, at Chrysler historical.I think it's all older stuff, though.
My Dart had a build sheet in the back seat, one under the front carpet, and one taped to the glovebox.

Every single element, from the sequence of construction, the number of degrees that fasteners turned reaching torque, to all the torque values are filed.

They are not distributed primarily because it would be a logistic nightmare.

Hm. I figured that after 10 or so years, the nightmare would have presented as storing the items. Very cool to know that original build information could conceivably be retrieved, say, for a rebuild or restoration.

It'd be damn tough. Frankly those things have a habit of coming back to bite you in the ass.

I gave one to an owner once being a nice guy. Before long he figured out that the dealer he'd bought the bike from had changed the bodywork and was all ready to present the paperwork I gave him as "evidence".

Buell has a need for the stuff whereas owners have simply curiosity. It just wouldn't seem prudent.
