Has anyone ever done a motor swap in a tube frame? Esp. a 2 stroke? I've got a line on a ski doo with a triple, and a street titled x1 frame collecting dust....... Hmmmmm..... Might be a project for next year. It would save well over 50lbs over stock...

Anyone ever seen different motors in em?

If you got a machine shop then go for it. Problem is frame was designed for a right side drive and most other engines, esp 2 strokes, are left side drives. Not saying it can't be done, but you'd likely have better success buying a metric frame from your local salvage yard.

Remember also that tubers need the engine to be in one piece.

The frame doesn't care about RH/LH drive. It's completely independant of the drive unit (Motor and swingarm)

Width will be an issue. There's not much out there (in multicylinders) that's narrower than an HD v-twin.

I've re-motored an RD350 into an FZR600. It actually amounted to little more than a bolt-in swap in that particular instance. It's very light (300 lbs now, and i know I can drop at least another 50. I have an 18 pound FZR400 frame waiting for my Banshee motor, next.

The relation of the output sprocket to swingarm pivot is critical. My two-stroke bike (on VERY old tires) likes to pull up into a wheelie, and THEN break the tires loose, because it switches from anti-squat to pro-squat in mid wheelie.

Seeing as how both the exhaust AND the rear shock are motor-hung, these will be considerations in your project. Don't forget, you need 3 expansion chambers. You probably have room to go up n' over with two of those, if you insulate your tank well.

I'd like to put the radiator under the seat on my Banshee/FZR.

You got any pictures? Wasn't the rd350 air cooled?

Well, I am going to take measurements of the two and three cyinder sleds.....

I'm also thinking of shortening the swingarm with some welding.... got a wicked idea. And the shock won't be hung underneath anymore because the oil bag will be gone.... I'm looking to take a steel swingarm and cut some fat and shorten it up a little bit. I'm shooting for under 53.5 for final wheelbase. xb front end. Expansion pipes will prob be stacked underneath for all three. If not then the middle will go over, two outsides will hug each other going under to maximize lean angle. I just gotta get a hold of this guy with the formula z and measure it out. I'm trying to figure out a tranny as well. I've contemplated keeping CVT if room permits, if only temporary. It would be neat to cut in on the throttle any time without shifting gears.

the tranny could be joined to motor with a mount that uses front swingarm mount and some imagination.... easier to draw than explain.
