OK, I'm stumped. Well...not stumped, but I'm pretty sure I'm missing pieces.

My S2 used to have a Supertrapp on it. I got a Buell race can to put on, and installed it using the 2 metal straps that were bolted to the underside of the engine case. They're simple pieces of flat steel, about 4 or 5 inches long, with a hole in each end for the bolts. IIRC there's a spacer that goes between the muffler ears, too.

I just got a race kit for my S1W from another badwebber, and it doesn't have these pieces of metal. Not faulting anyone, they're just not there.

It's been so long since I saw a tuber with a stock muffler, I'm not sure if these are stock items or not. My S1W had a V&H muffler on it, which has it's own goofy style of "shoe" to hold the back of the muffler to the case...so no luck adapting that.

Anyone know if these are stock pieces? I plan to check parts lookup next time I visit work...

Or, should I disassemble bike #2, and copy the pieces on my S2?

On the upside, I can't *wait* to fire up the S1W with a factory race kit on it!

They are stock but could be duplicated pretty easy.

The dual straps were stock, but superceded to a z-bracket, IIRC.

The stock pieces are not stainless, so they don't really match the new race can. In my opinion, which differed from the person I bought a race muffler from, the brackets should be part of the sale.

OK. After some digging on H-Dnet, I found that the stock mufflers had a Z bracket and offset mount holes on the top (one further forward than the other).

The race muffler has its holes lined up next to each other.

Installation text for the race muffler shows a pair of "muffler mount straps", part number S0123.2C.

Best part? Lookup says we have at least one at work : ) Gonna go dig tomorrow.

Wouldn't the Race Kit installation intstructions explain all this? I think the .pdf file is somewhere around here, if not, I know I downloaded it from somewhere on the internet...

I pulled the install sheet off H-Dnet. It listed (2) of the S0123.2C brackets, but called them "front muffler strap". So does the bag the part is shipped in, right on the label.

We had one at work. Bought it, just to see.

It is a little shorter than the ones on my S2, tucking the muffler up tighter, but it works. I always thought the dimple in the muffler was so you could get a wrench over the primary adjust nut without having to remove the muffler. Turns out, it hangs close enough with these straps, it's just there so the muffler *clears* the adjuster.

Now that I have a "template" (the one I bought), I'll just get the guys in the shop to pop out 2 pair for me (one pair for the S1W, one pair - the right length - for the S2). I'll keep the stocker as a 'template', I guess... Sure, they're still available...but I have my bike apart and it bothers me, lol.
