Marchesini are the lightest:
Front 10 lbs.8oz. Rear 14 lbs.15oz.

Castalloy:
Front 10 lbs.15oz. Rear 15 lbs.10.5oz.

Performance Machine:
Front 12 lbs. Rear 15 lbs.6.5oz.

Did you get those from HDFR? Those are old race wheels....VERY light. I'd be interested in what tire choices you come up with for the 16.5" rear.

Buellistic, those are not the factory pieces Marchesini put on the early Buells. Those are wheels Marchesini made as aftermarket pieces. They are MUCH lighter than the '95-'96 Buell Marchesini wheels. They are also nearly $2,000 each new IIRC.

Yeah hdfr on ebay I haven't looked for tires yet I don't know if Im going use them yet or not just thought they were cheap so I bought them

The Marchesini wheels on the 1995 Buells were elegant. There are a number of race wheels that bring many compromises (don't ask me how I know . . . I have them on a car and spend about $2K a year on wheels) to the street.

If "light" is your measure why not go with the carbon fiber wheels?

I do like the LOOK of the Marchesini wheels.

That's what I want. Dymag made some years ago for tubers but I'd really like to see a set of BST C/F that fit the tubers cuz I like the 5-spoke pattern. The BSTs look like the Marchisini pattern above whereas the Dymags look more like Busa wheels.

I've always liked the looks of the Marchisini in the opening photo.

As far as performance goes the wheels that came on the bike were well ahead of their time and as good as you can do for street use.

i've always liked those Marchesinis!

here are some pics of the dymag, magnesium wheels i scored on ebay; brand new, still in their orig packages! super freakin' light!

i haven't decided which bike to mount them on, probably the S1W!

Those Magnesium wheels are wonderful and I'm sure super lite. Nice score.

They made alum ones for the street.

I think the Mag are supposed to be race only so I would try not to wheelie.

If you research Mag wheels there is alot of talk about periodic x-rays for stress cracks.

I wouldn't use anything but soap and water to clean them.

the paperwork that came with the wheels says only to use light detergent and water, with silicone wax periodically. i am trying to get some info from dymag about their street worthiness. the front weighs about 6 lbs and the rear about 10 lbs. (best i can tell from my not very scientific bathroom scale!)

if i ever do, they will be offered to fireman jim first, then you. if i remember right, you were my competition on ebay in 04 when i got them! sorry, i called them direct and bought them over the phone for a price so cheap it would make you cry! MSRP was something like $2,250.00.

by the way, they are still in their orig boxes! with all the orig paperwork!

Also, I believe they're multi-piece wheels, so manufacturing costs are higher.

not made any more

and as Rat correctly states made in pieces, I contacted PM about bearing bore repairs, no dice buy new PM wheels but machined from billet not spun.

it appears that the wheels are made from at least 6 pieces, hub, hub ends}, sides and rim insert.

My bud had a set of "PM spun" wheels on his zx7r back in the day(When the R was rare, and had a close ratio trans, flatsides and a single seat).

Just after that I ordered my as a factory option on the s1.

Is there a difference? I know the term billet but don't understand spun. We used to say PM spun but I really don't know the difference to be honest.

Please forgive the extreme ignorance.

I liked the bling of polished aluminum at the time instead of the factory March.

His looked very similar although they were anodized blue to match Russell's back in the day.

I love the bare alum PMs.

I did hear that once you jack up the bearing bore you are screwed.

Those Marchesinis were the same I had, front is still on Don's Black S-2, never could find a street tire for the 16.5 rear so gave it to Vallejo for their race bike. Steve Slaughter's bud has a nice 17" rear on his S-1 racebike, I drooled on it at Al's picnic a couple years ago.Those ones are lighter than the Marchesinis that came stock on our Buells.
I scored a Dymag like Sleez's for my Sprint a couple years ago , very nice.

That's interesting. I would have expected the opposite. Given that the wheel is "modular", one would think you could just replace the damaged piece and not have to replace the entire wheel!
