Was wondering what kind of results I could expect. I have a 97 S3T with Forcewinder intake and Vance & Hines exhuast. Other than that - stock. Was putting out 62HP +-bone stock prior to the change then dynoed @ 72.5 +- after. Going to put on Thunderstorm Heads & wrap the pipes. Where will this put me? Any help w/ jets will be greatly appreciated.

An S3T with the thunderstorms, thunderstorm 10.5:1 pistons, stock cams, re-jetted stock carb, pipe and race air cleaner. is usually good for about 85-86rwhp. The force intake will probably knock that down about 2hp but gain 1-2 ft-lbs below hp peak based on what i have seen on dyno vs. the Buell race air cleaner assy. You didn't say if your pipe was a slip on or full pipe. slip on will probably knock another 1-2 off of that. I am guessing you will be in the low 80's.

Quick way to improve the flow on the heads is to put in XB valves ...

I changed over my 95 S2 a couple years ago - put on Thunderstorm heads, pistons, Lightning Component cams (X1 cams), and Buell race ignition box for S1W (since I basically had a heavy-flywheel S1W motor now), and I love it. It also has a Buell race muffler, attached to the stock S2 header with an automotive 2" to 2.5" adaptor (hey, it works).

Haven't dyno'd it yet...but it definitely has enough snap to get my attention. I think we crossed start/finish on the "parade lap" at Homecoming at 108....with my wife as a passenger, full saddlebags, and a full tank bag : )

The new S/E heads are basically XB style heads, beehive springs, XB valves etc. The come complete and are a good deal.Flow better than the T/S heads. Might need new front mount though.

the new se heads are bolt-and-go for '07-up 1200 sportsters, but they will fit '04-'06 sportsters with carb adapter plates. They will also fit tubers with the same plates but you will need a new front mount like the one NRHS makes. The new se heads are basically milled down XB heads.

I don't know if it's a Harley part or not but I do know that Dan at NRHS can get it for you. I believe they are about $15 each or something like that, at least when I asked Dan about them. I had a set of '07 Sportster heads I got on eBay for $84 and I was going to put them on my '03 1200S but I sold them and got a deal on some STD heads and Axtell cyls instead. Since then I sold the top end before I ever used it to buy '95 S2 #814 : D

Well ridden, to answer your question, I think you'd net about 80 hp if you add the TS heads. Oh and Easy Rider SE stands for Second Edition on Windows, And Screamin' Eagle if you hear it around here ; ).

I just did a set on a 1996 S-2 and no adapter plate needed, but stock mount was drilled so a billet mount would be nice.
I came in with one head damaged and the new one was about 300 dealer price. It was the milled XB style for an XL so it had breather holes tapped.

It sure is nice to get accurate info from the guys in the "know". Results for the dyno after the upgrades mentioned.
w/ the Forcewinder element on - 84.24
w/o element - 92.34.
Also, the exhaust was a slip-on, and repacked prior to dyno.
Again, thanks to all for the input.
Until the next wild hair.......

Sorry I missed part of the discussion here...
So what is the exact set up yielding 92 RWHP?
Thanks.

The first post seemed to imply that the Forcewinder and V&H added about 10HP; from 62 to 72...
So I am now confused..

The new dyno results I believe are after installing the Thunderstorm heads. I believe the 2 results both have the forcewinder elbow on but the latter without the filter.

I think the filter on the newer XR2 Forcewinder is bigger? Might be worth looking into if the elbow itself was in place on both runs and just the filter made that much difference.

Phelan,
You are correct. 2 different upgrades from bone stock @ 62. The first just a V & H slipon & forcewinder to 72. The 2nd go Thunderstorm heads, pistons & .05 over just to clean it up, and the wrap. From Hurricaneleah's post, he was pretty much right on @ 84. Sounds like I need the race air cleaner or the newer forcewinder. Either way, it sure is a snappy "sport touring" bike.

Do not run a Forcewinder with the rain sock UNLESS it is actually raining! It will easily eat 4 hp or more.

Without the rainsock a Forcewinder is good for over 100 hp with no issues. Those of you saying it robs hp on 80-90 hp bikes are doing something wrong!

Wow, I didn't know that... I've always had the rain sock on cuz I think it looks better. I may have to take that puppy off for a while.

or you could pop on one of those HurricaneFlow backing plates or whatever they are called, with a c/f cover and 2 or 3" element, pick up a couple of rwhp and not have to worry about putting a condom over your aircleaner. : ) It's the schniznit on my S2.
Besides, the c/f just looks purty.
Dan you know anywhere someone could pick up these parts? American Sport Bike maybe?

LOL, that's like asking the owner of a Harley dealership where you can buy a Sportster. Dan (BuellieDan) owns NRHS V-Twin Performance, a company that I hold in high regard, which is the very company that builds/markets Hurricane products like the Hurricane Flow air cleaner. I like the HurricaneFlow a lot but it won't fit a Force pipe unless you get a non-S2 version, and those won't fit under a T fairing. You can call him at (303) 702 1600 if you want to order one.
