I am trying to replace my rear Showa shock on my 2000 X1 lightning with a shorter one. I have the correct bracket for the shorter shock. The problem is the old bracket had threaded holes for the bolts and the new one is not threaded so the two 3/8 x 5 1/4 bolts that hold the mounts and go thru the front of the engine cases are too short. anyone know where I can get longer bolts say 5 1/2 inches. I already tried the local HD dealer but all they could find in the parts list were the same bolts. I was going to try an auto parts store for some grade 8 bolts but the bolts also have a triangle on the head which as best I can tell from my internet research is that it is a 'close tolerance' bolt. Will regular Grade 8 bolts work or will they not fit tight enough and mess up the engine cases? If not where can I find some longer bolts. Thanks

You should be able to look in the back of the Buell parts book and find charts listing the bolts, and then you can get a part number for the proper length bolts.

Get ready for yet another argument, but I personally only use the Buell fasteners for high-stress critical items like this. Other than this statement, I'm staying out of it.

I don't think the recall kit came with different bolts, but I'll check.

Yup, the recall kit came with new nuts, but not new bolts. You might search the archives, this has been an issue before.
