Hey guys,

First post here. I've been lurking for a couple of weeks. I recently purchased a '99 S3 that I am going to be working on over the winter. I'm going to have it repainted and am looking to do air intake and exhaust to it. One thing I am also thinking about it putting a little lower set of handlebars on it. I was curious if anyone here has mounted a set of dirt bike style bars on their s3? I'ld like to get some bars that have me leaning a little farther forward than the stock ones do. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

i used and liked very well k/n superbike bars, (27.5" wide, 2.5" rise, 6.5" pull back and 4.75" center width) that are no longer available, but similar bends are. their (Flanders) p/n 650-04301 are similar with; 28" width, 2.5" rise, 6.75" pull back and 5" center width. S1 bars work ok as well.

try flanders;

they have loads of styles and you should be able to find something you'll like.

If you have the S3T bars on the bike you can put the standard S3/S1 bars on and that will lower about 1.5" and move them forward about 1".

I use the Flanders bars on my S3, works well for me. A little higher than stock, but you can still use the stock cables.

Sleez: Does the Flanders bar you mention keep the same cables and hoses, or does one need to go through the agony of replacing them?

Dragonwing,

going to a lower bar seldom requires changing any cables. mine have a little extra slack and look just fine. had no ill effects whatsoever.

i think bikerjim99 is talking about the touring bars, not what Leeinmemphis is looking for.

by the way, i only paid 28.95 for my K&N bars. (10 years ago!)

I used some aluminum bars for a KX80, removed the bolt on crossbar. Brian

I have an M2 and put Blast bars on it, if you have the S3T bars, I will trade you my old M2 bars for them. M2 bars are in perfect shape. The Flanders site lists the nominal dimensions of Buell bars on their site, so you can see the difference.

Thanks guys. I've been looking around at the stuff suggested. I am really wanting something about two inches forward and two inches lower than what I have now(pretty sure they are stock). I'm going to try a set of Renthal CR hi style bars. It looks like that will get me what I think I'm looking for. The way it is now anything over 60mph makes me feel like I'm a parachute trying to get blown off the bike. If I can lean a little more forward it will hopefully offset some of that and put a little more weight on the front end while in the corners.

got the bars in today and they won't work. I'll hold onto them for the dirtbike in case we bend a set on the bike. Back to the drawing board.

Hey there LeeinMephis.... I want to do the exact same with my S3 for the same reasons as you. What did you end up doing?

Thanks for giving me the shortcut!

Cheers, X
