I must say that whenever I think about the S2 Gathering it brings pleasant thoughts. In my opinion, it went off without a hitch. Even the rain and cool temps over Hosier Pass were not too bad in retrospect. I got to hang out and ride with some like-minded S2 riders and Buell Enthusiast. That is what it was about for me.

I am really impressed with the way everyone helped out with the swag, Tee Shirts, awards and of course the millions of other things that go along with something like this that I had no idea about (Rex was invaluable). Of course HCHD/Buell and BMC really stepped up the plate to help out. Kim and Cheryl on their beautiful Triumphs was icing on the cake leading us through the mountains under challenging conditions.

Every rider that showed up for the S2 Gathering is some of the best and most enthusiastic Buell riders on the planet. Some of my memories are Mike showing up after his iron butt ride looking like he had been on a weekend bender, Tim calling from WAY down South saying he will be late (and the tire change), Jay breaking out the bottle of uh spirits, Bart's bad ass bike and horn, and of course our only Uly rider (there is always one) admiring my S2. I remember enjoying dinner with a bunch of S2 riders when we all spotted a red S2 heading into town (it was Eric and Jaci, two up, stock seat, all the way from Canada) and right to the liquor store.

The awards, T-Shirts, Swag and timing covers are nothing compared to the Buell enthusiasm I experienced on that short weekend. Of the dozen people that showed from all over the US and two from Canada only two hauled their bikes. Of course that was Rex and I, with all the stuff we had to carry there was no way around that. Since the introduction of the S2 we have seen many other bikes released by Buell. The Fuellers (XBs) and Watercoolers (1125) and while I like all those bikes, the riders have a different attitude. The S2 Thunderbolt seems to stir a level of enthusiasm that few will ever experience. I can honestly say that I have never met someone I did not like on a S2.

As I look at the threads on this site about people's opinions about what Buell should do or what they should have done, it seems silly in comparison. We all know that they are missing it. If they spent more time hanging out with the caliper of people that showed up for this event and others like it they would understand what the Buell experience really is. Thank you to everyone that had a part in this event. It was the pinnacle of my Buell ownership experience.

I look forward to next year and no matter how small or big the event is it will be great to see old friends and meet new ones. It does not matter if you ride a S2 or not, if you are a Buell Enthusiast you will enjoy it.

Frank

Frank,
Just got home from the WeSTpac ride, (it's a Honda thing) and found a package from you at my doorstep. Very nice, my friend, Thank You very much! The first S2 gathering was very special in the fact that it was produced for, and by S2 enthusiasts, from all over. Some went through great lengths, (or miles) to participate, and yet others, were just playing in their back yard. It is this type of gathering, of like minded individuals, with a passion for riding, and appreciation of the beauty of the S2, that will keep me coming back, year after year. ; )
