I think we need an S2 gathering. Getting as many S2's together as possible.

Maybe at the next Homecoming? Thoughts?

Fireman Jim and I had once discussed having one in California, but it would be a long way for everyone to ride. REX

I think it would have to be somewhere more central, so that more S2 owners could have a chance of actually making it. There are great roads in Colorado or northern Arkansas. I rode up to Wisconsin for the 25th, but I doubt I'll be going as far as California or Florida anytime soon (I'm in central Texas). Maybe have an "Eastern S2 Congregation" (near the Dragon) vs. a "Western S2 Jamboree" (in the Rockies) on the same weekend or something. Make it like a contest...the loser has to pay for the winners' t-shirts!

Frank and I talked about getting as many together as possible, at Homecoming....we have our own section on BWB, maybe we could have our own parking area, too : )

I don't know if I could do another homecoming...
Perhaps a gathering more central to the whole country, like Kansas, But Colorado would be good too.

I have been giving this some thought this weekend, while I was riding my S2T in the Rockies, and think a S2 gathering, open to all Buells of course, would be great.

Does anyone know of any S2 owners in Colorado???? Oh yeah, I live in Colorado.

"Thunderbolts in the Rockies" I like the sound of that.

I am thinking June time frame in Breckenridge. I already have some contacts that manage some condos in that area. If we are serious about this and if we decide to have it in Colorado I will need help.

A few months ago I tried to get interest for another Buell Rally in Colorado like the Colorado Buell rallys in the past. I could not generate enough interest with any of the locals. I have never done anything like this so would need some dedicated people to help out.

What do you guys think????

I still recommend we all get together at Homecoming and at least have a couple of pics taken of the bikes and owners.

Dan lives in Colorado : p. I know he would be willing to join up, and possibly Aaron too. I think Colorado would be perfect. It would be a lot easier for me to go there from Amarillo like I did last year than to try and go to Wisconsin.

We're going to Key West in March....of course, we're flying and will be S2-less, but it's an excuse to go to Key West for St Pat's day, LOL.

I won't go to another Homecoming for awhile, maybe the 50th...
but, I can make it to Colorado. Breckinridge is nice, but pagosa springs, south fork, Montrose, they are all in the MIDDLE of some of the finest Colorado has to offer.
Will this just be a social gathering, or will there actually be rides planned?
Frank, I can help you with some of the planning. there are a couple of S2 owners here in AZ still. : )

I want to emphasize that even though we call this a S2 gathering that all Buells should be welcomed and encouraged.

I did not want to take over Rex’s thread so maybe we should have a vote on the area to have it at. Something like:

Colorado
California
Arizona
North East
South East
During Homecoming
Just before or after homecoming
At Sturgis

Throw out the ideas. I can make it anywhere in the lower 48 but will have to sacrifice going to Homecoming in order to do something too far. So my vote will be Colorado. Once we have a general area maybe we can nail down a specific location.

Rex, this is you idea and a great one at that, what are your thoughts?

Lebanon KS is good for me. The roads look boring. I know for a fact the ride out there is boring.I do not think there is a hotel/motel or camping area in Lebanon but it is close to the worlds largest ball of twine. Lynn and I would ride out there in a minute if we knew there was a gathering of S2s and the other stuff would not matter much.

Any one live near there that has first hand knowledge.

Durango, CO is not bad. Close to Mesa Verde National Park and of course the Million Dollar Highway is always fun. Here is a link to a nice loop of that area.

The Million Dollar Highway (first highway to ever cost $1M/mile) is a great ride.

I used to enjoy hitting the Indian Reservations, coming up 666 into Farmington (one of the two places I'd run in triple digits for an hour) and the ride down the hill into Farmington is like nothing in the world (with the possible exception of the road near Bryce Canyon). . . .and then up toward Ouray where I used to have a favorite joint . . .

Kansas holds a special place in my heart. Western Kansas has no (that's none kids) twisty roads but holds some of the most beautiful sights in the USA. Anyone ever see the chalk cliffs? . . . . the entire area is amazing.

Another one of my favorite rides:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=Whitewater,+ CO&daddr=East+Vancorum,+CO+to:La+Sal+Junction,+San +Juan,+Utah,+United+States+to:Moab,+UT+to:38.72623 3,-109.346924+to:Cisco,+Grand,+Utah,+United+States +to:Grand+Junction,+CO+to:Gateway,+CO&hl=en&geocod e=&mra=dpe&mrcr=3&mrsp=4&sz=9&via=4&sll=38.642618, -109.143677&sspn=1.018966,1.757812&ie=UTF8&ll=38.7 6265,-108.992615&spn=1.017258,1.757812&z=9

Not a lot of traffic.

We had six Buells on our ride to Gateway CO last year in May.

Gateway fast became one of my favorite resorts. Gateway CO has nothing in the town besides this real nice resort that is reasonably priced. The Colorado Thunder Club does this ride every year about the middle of May.

On my way out there the temp in the foothills was 48 degrees and 20 degrees on the pass and followed by 80 degrees for the rest of the weekend... What a great ride that was.

I could have spent a lot more time out there.

Frank

I would rather meet somewhere in Colorado myself. I've lived in Colorado and Kansas and Colorado is much runner and nice IMHO. Mainly though the ride up there would give me the opportunity to see some friends and family that live in CO along the way.

It was the last time I rode the S2 out that way. Could we let the RS guys in on the party? Might make for a nice reprise of the ride out for Buellganza'02 if I can pry Josh away for a weekend of fun in CO : D

Philly, I do not think, at least it is not known to me, that there has ever been a bike specific Buell event and I do not see anyone ever saying that only S2s would be welcome, in my mind that is absurd. All Buells would be welcome. The RS and RSS bikes are a lot of the reason the S2s look so great. I think I read that in a book somewhere.

I am really thinking about May or Jun. In May the weather is still a little iffy in the mountains but there are advantages to May. For one, the Denver group has a Gateway Colorado ride in the time frame and although I have not talked to their leader yet I am betting they would not have a problem with a bunch of Buellers from all over the country joining them.

I have some more ideas but May Jun time frame sounds good to me.

Kansas is fine. Flat, but if we are just meeting as a group, there are alwasy curves before you get there

Colorado is fine. Easy for me to get there from Arizona. Up from Phoenix and thru the four corners.

Both probably more centralized.

I just think it would be great to have a huge number of S2's together.

Some of the guys in the FSSNOC, Four Stroke Single National Owners Club, have what they call ThumperCafes. Everyone drives hundreds of miles to meet, have lunch and drive back home.

Colorado would be beautiful. Good backgrounds for a shot of the bikes.

Would be a good time to get our official lists together of who has what numbers, who needs the special model plates, etc.

I just think it would be cool. Hope whatever weekend is picked I am free.

Thanks REX
