It seems I have a rocker box leak. The bike is a 2002 and only has 5000 miles on it. I will confirm the leak tonight. I noticed a oil leak from the front of the rear cylinder rocker box may be the bottom part of the cover. Will I need to drop the engine to get at this??? I hope not. It looks tight in there. Is it metal gaskits or what? looking for advice

First of all let me be the first to bash you or posting in the S2 section about an S3!!! : p just kidding. To my knowledge all of the tube frame Buells had paper gaskets and you need to upgrade them to better gaskets. I don't think you'll have to drop the motor but you WILL have to take the gas tank off.

The gasket kits that Buell dealers stock now are rubber-coated steel gaskets. Much better than the stock original paper ones. No need to drop the engine, but you will want to rotate it to TDC as you're removing rocker arms, and want to have the pushrods as far down in the engine as possible (valves closed).

When you're getting your gaskets, either get or order a factory shop manual. It's the best $60 you're going to spend, if you're going to wrench on your bike : )

This is a dooable job for the home mech.Do both front and rear!A rear stand and a bottle jack and your in.Beer and a friend are also helpful.IT IS NOT EASY!Ratbuell is telling the way the book says to do it,but I took both front and rear rockers off at the same time and when I re-assembled I just let the lifters bleed down over-nite.You need to remove the "do-not remove front motor mt/iso.Let us know if you need advice, were full of It!

I just did the rear. Not a bad job. I only did one because I was out of time I will do the other one soon. The paper gaskit was stupid. The new gaskit was the right thing to do.
