On the M2, I'm not seeing any oil burning or leakage, yet I have to keep topping it up. Is this normal? | ||

I've only had the bike on the road 1 week. The first 3 days I just drove around town for a shake down feel etc. Changed the oil twice to flush it and then put in 5/50 100% synthetic for the 4 day trip. On day 2 I thought "check the oil, what the heck" I was shocked to see it not register on the stick, so I topped it up and continued to top it up every 3-4 hours. Don't see any burning or leakage. When I pull the stick and look into the tank, I do see vapor swirling around. Could it be evaporating through the vent tube? | ||

How much are you adding when you top it up? How do the plugs look? What's the level in your primary? I can only think that the engine oil is getting by the crank seal and into the primary. By now, though, it would have blown out the vent and onto your back wheel! | ||

My primary cover is stained around and down from the small inspection cover. That's new. The vent hose over the rear wheel is dry. I just threw the bike into the shed after the trip. I'll look at the plugs and drain the tranny today to check fluid quantity. I added about a 1/4 quart every 3-4 hours. Bike runs great, no clutch slippage. | ||

This is the way "i" check my oil level ... After a good ride, still running on the side stand ... When you first pull the dip stick out it indicates the oil level when running up right down the road ... When you look into the oil filler hole, the oil should be one inch from the side stand edge, which when setting up-right gives you a two inch air space ... QUESTIONS ??? I drained just shy of a quart out of the tranny so that indicates it's not transfering oil from the motor to the tranny. No leaks, no burning that I can see....mmmmm | ||

It's blowing oil out of the breathers. You're probably running the oil level too high in the oil bag and in the process of self leveling itself, it blows out of the engine breathers in the cylinderheads. Try running the oil level lower in the oil bag. I run my oil level below the lower mark on the dipstick, never above it. To keep the internal capacity up, I use the longer Dyna filter. This cut oil consumption down by a remarkable amount... about 75% I'd estimate. Keep a close eye on the level if you try this. | ||

Will try that. The "Dyna" filter, is that off of the Dyna HD model or something else? Engine breathers in cyl. heads, where does the oil go from there? | ||

Proper way to check oil level in transmission: Both wheels on level ground, Bike perfectly up right ... Transmission oil should just touch the SPRING,diaphragm PN 36792-91 ... If the oil rise's above just touching the SPRING, this is an indication the MOTOR SPROCKET OIL SEAL PN 35151-74A is bad and needs to be replaced ... | ||

Why not use the filter that you can get at Wal-Mart ... Lot less expensive and do the same thing ... "i" have used Super Tech ST8A for years ... Comes in BLACK ... | ||

This could be interesting. I'm using, if memory serves, a Fram 6022 meant for, if my information is correct, a Ford Ranger. Sorry for being so waffle-ee. Man, I sure hope the HD dealer doesn't bend me over like the BMW dealer does, I'd be really disappointed. | ||

The Fram PH6022 is the one listed in the Fram book for the Buell M2 2000 (Probably 98-2002 at least)which is black. And they have a chrome one also about twice as much and the number is PH6022C. |
