Well I picked myself up an old X1 Y2K. Love the bike and have been fixing it up and in the process I see the ECM spy cable and software. I am kind of new to that but would like to give it a try. I see some guys have loaned thier cables to others and if someone has one they would like to loan or sell on the cheap I would love to give one a try. The bike has the High flow intake and vance and hines exhaust but no one has done anything to the ECM so I think it could use that but would like to look it over before spending too much of my hard earned cash on the cable. I would pick up all expenses on a loaner such as shipping and such. Make it more of a rental if needed. This site will likely be a home for me for a while as I learn more about this great bike.

Welcome Mrsinister to the board. I have a Y2kS3 V&H gutted intake and a stock ECM I changed to race ECM fuel maps using ECM Spy. It is a must do for you IMHO. It made a huge difference in drivability = much smoother response to throttle input.

My advice is to spend the coin and make a cable yourself or buy one. They are available on this board. Try the search feature to find one. You will need to to reset the Throttle Position Sensor and AFV (see ECM Spy manual for details) every 2 or 3 months (YMMV) so it only makes sense to have immediate access to your cable.

Where on earth did you here this? I've reset my TPS twice(for ecm change and motor work) in 9 years on my S3 and it rips! You do not have to reset every 2-3 months.

Let's see... I reset TPS and AFV in May because it would not idle without stalling and again in August because it was beginning to stumble at idle. That is three months and I could have done it sooner.
Your mileage may vary - and I see yours does! I am happy for you brother!

My point here for Mr Sinister is that if has his own cable he may use it a lot more than he might thinks right now - and benefit from it. I did.

I have every intention of purchasing the cable once I see if I can use it well enough to be of use to me. I just wanted to give it the old try before you buy thing. Another question I have is what is best to run in the crankcase for lube. The stuff in this one looks rather thick to me. I thought some were running the same synthetic oil in both the engine and drive systems. Is that the way to go or should it be something else in the drive line?

Does any one have a link to those here on the site that are making up the cables? I looked around a little and couldn't find them.

I sent you a PM with sources for the cable parts. It's pretty easy to put together. The parts will run you about $30.

ECM Spy is a free download.

I'm not an expert but if someone else needs the source info for the cable and software drivers, let me know and I'll post it here.

I just purchased the entire thing in kit form on ebay. Looks like a good guy selling them there. I am sure if I run into any snags you fellas will bail me out.

Buy the cable. You'll get your money back with the first TPS reset.

I will be happy to share the little I know and look forward to learning more about this powerful tool from your experiences with it too!
