I was popping a wheelie to show off riding with a guy on an R6, but I got a free rev instead of a free flying front wheel. It sucks.

Well I installed my old sportster belt yesterday. I had presoaked the bolts on the sideplate in pen-lube 1-2 times per day for 3 days prior to the dissasembly, but with a lot of torque I managedto get the 3 bolts off without stripping them. I had a little trouble getting the bushing out, but all-in-all the process took about an hour. Next time it'll only take 30 min ; )

When I had my sideplates off, I used antisieze on them and marked the heads (once torqued) with some paint to do a quick visual check to make sure they haven't rotated any. I'm the type who'd rather ride than wrench, but I'm also anal enough that I want the bike to be put together right every time I take it out, so I try and keep the pre-flight checklist as quick as possible : ) Techs who do stuff on my bike (tires, etc) always wonder why there's paint on the rear shock preload, the fork setting dials, the axle nuts/forks, sideplates, triple tree bolts....just little dots of touchup on each one, but they think it's funny as hell....

LOL. That's a good idea, but I'm too scatterbrained to remember what they were at before they move so I wouldn't even notice. I felt like I got out like a bandit though because I didn't have to use any special tools or even any lift... I took the tail off and loosened the axle and adjusters, then I had my dad lift the tail so I could slide the belt in, push the wheel forward and slide it around the rear pulley. Then I just tightened the adjusters until the slack was just right.

Sorry, should have clarified. Dot of paint on the fastener, dot of paint lined up with it on the part it fastens. Dots un-align, time to tighten : )
