Well I'm new here so hello everyone. I have an 2000 cyclone that i just picked up and I'm having some problems. I went out for a ride yesterday...started it up, let it warm up and all that then i got about a mile down the road and it started running like there was no gas and i pulled the clutch and it died. Started right back up again when i pulled over and rode for a little less than a mile then did the same thing. The problem got progressively worse and now it wont start at all. A buddy of mine suggested switching the relays since ones starter and ones ignition. I tried that and pressed the starter and...nothing, which probably means that the ignition relay is bad which would explain things. Any other ideas? also, does anyone know which way the diodes are supposed to be facing because i stupidly pulled them out thinking they were fuses and i know they are meant to go a certain way. Any help would be much appreciated thanks! (I checked all the obvious stuff like making sure i turned the choke off, making sure the gas was on, making sure the spark plug wires were connected and all that. Havent checked the condition of the fuel filter yet though) | ||

Sounds like you are on the right track. I *vaguely* remember something about a manual or a marking somewhere having one of those diodes shown the wrong way... but it is a REALLY fuzzy memory. | ||

yeah i kinda thought one was the other way when i took it out but they seem only really fit in one direction so i have no idea. i mean it will go in the other way but it doesnt really sit flush... | ||

Im not so sure its electrical anymore. I took the tank off today and made sure the line from the tank to the carb flowed freely, which it did. Wheres the fuel filter located? Its possible that could be gunked up too. I didnt touch any of the carb adjustments and it was running perfect the other day so i have no idea whats going on. The breather for the tank flows as well because ive heard that can cause similar symptoms. So i guess it must be some gunk in the carb or something? If anyone has any suggestions dont be shy im at a loss for what to do... | ||

there IS no filter on an 00m2. Just the screen on the petcock tube. | ||

yeh im gonna put an inline one on. i couldnt believe they had no fuel filter. how do u get to the petcock screen? | ||

Make sure your battery cables are snug. Also ensure that your tank vent is not blocked. After that I would look at the starter/ignition safety circuit, clutch switch, neutral switch, Bank angle switch and Kick stand switch. Joe (Message edited by bad_karma on August 13, 2008) | ||

When you say safety circuit do you mean the relays on the back right of the bike by the fuses? Theres one for the starter and one for the ignition and some diodes right? | ||

to get to the petcock, unbolt the fuel tap and pull it out. | ||

awesome thanks. yeah im gonna start by replacing the relay for the ignition because i wasnt getting any spark, so sooner or later somethings gotta give... |
