i have a 2000 x1 and was going to put fog lights on it. can i just disconnect the yellow, hi beam, wire going to my light and use it as a source or what? I have a copy of the service manual but it is saved to disc and when i try to enlarge it becomes blury. any suggestions. i do not need or use my hi beams so i thought this would be nice . scott | ||

I don't see why you couldn't use you're high beam wire, just check to make sure it's the same voltage between your high beam and the new lights. I used the source for my license plate light since I did away with the light when I put on the license plate relocator and under seat panel. | ||

If they are bright, they draw a lot of current ... If the wire is too small to handle the current that the battery pushes, the wire will get "HOT" ... Be safe, use a relay and fuse's ... ie: battery, fuse, SW, relay, GRD ... ie: battery, fuse, relay, light(s), GRD ... | ||

i have read a the post about fog lights but i was wondering if anyone could tell me if i could use the yellow wire or the orange/white wire for this. my idea is that if it will work i will be able to use the factory fuse and the factory switch. instead of trying to find a place for a relay and a switchi am not sure what kind of current the fog lights draw or the highbeam light in my bike draws, any ideas?? | ||

According to page 7-1 in the 1999 lightning service manual the headlamp is 60/55 Watts and 5.0/4.58 Amps respectively for high/low and is part #67969-96Y which may have changed by now. The package your fog lights come in should give you all the specifications on them. I'm assuming you're going to get them at a local auto parts store. AND on 7-29 on the Headlamp Connector it has POSITION LAMP O/W, HIGH BEAM W, LOW BEAM Y, AND LMP GROUND BK, I don't think your position lamp will put out the power you need and if you don't use your high beams you'll want to use the white wire. yeah i got my wires crossed, ill use the white wire. what i want is for the low beam to stay on when i turn the hi beam switch on and just have the fog lights come on, i am going to have to do some testing with a light pen. but i did get them mounted and they look pretty sweet. i wanted black but they did not have them, so i got chrome, i will have to post some pics. as far as the lights and current it really doesnt say what they draw but they did come with an inline 15 amp fuse, i am at work now but ill take a look again when i get home. | ||

That should be adequate. The lights are fused with a 15 in the fuse box. Post up the pics when you're done. | ||

i dont plan on using the 15a inline fuse that came with the lights. or the switch that is why i wanted to use my hi beam switch and the bikes fuse for lights | ||

I was thinking of putting auxiliary lights in the same area on my S3. Can you please post a couple of closeups of the mounting bracket you used for my benefit. Did you buy the brackets or make them? | ||

the lights are just the cheapies from wally mart. i wanted black but they didnt have them in black, but i might bring them back and get the black square ones. | ||

the brackets came with the lights just go to walmart and look in the automotive section. as far as mounting them, there are predrilled holes in the mounts for the headlight so i really didnt have to do anything except for wire em up. and i will try to take some close ups of the moutning though | ||

I would suggest running them through a relay and having the relay being triggered by the hibeam line. I don't think the stock switching is up to triple the original current. | ||

What Nate said the wiring to the head light is not "over built" and will likely fail if subjected to currents approaching 20 amps, I still like where you put the lights I Have an HID head light and want driving lights as a backup it has gone out a time or two ( no fun ) | ||

ok i put a relay in the system and they work a little better but over all it is an improvment. i alos moved them, just switched place with my signals. i will take some pics an post this weekend. it is suppoed to rain so i guess i can start my 5000mile service. | ||
