I've been reading up on everyone's posts for curing the X1 surging problems.

Last night I decided to jump out the diagnostic port and see if there are and trouble codes.

I have none.

My bike is running so poorly that I was sure I would find something wrong.

Is this common?

I have a new heat temp sensor and new plugs coming this week. I know I also need a fresh TPS reset.

Any thoughts?

You need to expand some on poorly running / surging

the electrical bits can be workin with in parameters and due to a minor mecahnical problem not run well,

timing / air leak
drifiting sensor

The bike starts fine and Idles fine.
The biggest issue is from around 3500rpm to around 4500rpm the bike runs like it is missing and it continuously backfires like its missing a cylinder. then after 4500rmp it pulls strong up to the redline.

I've tried reseting the AFV by following what I've read here with no change. I also sprayed WD40 at the intake manifold seals with no change in the idle. (I bought new ones just in case)

I just bought the bike earlier this summer. I replaced a bad VR which fixed my first issue.

I had a similar problem and it was a bad 02 sensor. The bike would idle fine and run ok right off the bat then would stumble BADLY then run great to redline and run BADLY once a constant speed was held. It did not throw a code at first until I tried to ride it home then the light came on. After replacing it you could tell it ran a little better then all of the sudden it seemed to catch it's breath (Re-learned) and ran great. Might be worth looking at and is fairly cheap to replace.

A few thoughts...

Clean out the intake of the throttle body then have the DDFI relearn itself using the procedures oultined in the FSM. Junk in the throttle body will disrupt air flow.

The engine will also do that when it is cold as well. Check to see if it's only doing this on a cold engine.

Check your spark plugs...

NEW FUEL FILTER.

This is an issue that cannot throw a trouble code, and is also capable of the condition you describe. Setting the timing wouldn't hurt, either.
