I parked the bike for close to three weeks in the back of my garage with half a tank of fresh 93 octane. Today I pulled it out and was giving it a quick once over before I started it up, and I found some white flakes in the gas tank. Maybe the size of small flakes of fish food. I got one of the bigger ones out and onto a gloss black background and took a picture, I'll get it posted this evening. The inside of the tank looks perfect from what I can see from the cap opening, but there were probably 10 of these flakes visible. Still rides fine. Should I just grab one of those small fuel filters and throw it on there and just not worry about it? It's not like it could be rusting. What could it be? | ||

put an inline fuel filter in, and let her eat... i dunno what could be causing the debree. | ||

I installed an inline filter seven years ago when I bought my bike. I don't trust what I'm pumping into my tank. | ||

Mike,I redid a 1998 S-1W that had sat for several years, it looked like someone had dumped oatmeal or soap flakes in the tank. I drained it and got a coffee strainer full of soapy feeling flakes from gas tank and carb bowl. Could even see where it had gone though intake manifold and deposited on the walls. Very odd stuff. | ||

I wonder if it could have to do with all this Gas we're getting with 10% Ethanol. I mean, every station here in town sells ethanol blended gas and when I went to Detroit, everything up there was blended as well. |
