The disk's hub is loose on the wheel?
or is the outer rotor loose on the hub?

the rotor is loose on the hub. floating rotor assembly appears to be worn out i guess.

Mine also rattles, a little movement is okay. If the movement is front to back then you may have a problem. They sell wave washers to snug it up if it rattles side to side. I would just replace mine but the rotor itself is fine, its the drive pins that hold it in place. I can deal with a little rattle until the rotor is worn out. Do a search, there are plenty of posts about this.

i was more or less just venting. yea, its not gonna fall off or anything. it will make it for 2 more months of riding before winter hits and the bike gets torn down and rebuilt.

You can use 6201Y("BUELLschitte" part number BA148.9SS) to shim, to get rid of the rattling if you have 1997 or older rotor that is two piece ...

When mine wore out, I replaced it with an EBC. About $175. Works fine. Buell wants over $300 for a factory replacement.

Try doubling up on the wave washers. I have about 6K on my front disk since doing it and it is not rattling yet. I'm sure that I'm only extending the interval between not having to hold the front brake to keep it quiet at a light.

Define junk and clue me in as to how this junk has managed to pass years of federal testing, win races around the world and work for this long. . . . .

Your choice of words is odd.

i just meant its wore out court, its good for the rest of the summer then needs replacing... my dad gets pissed too for the same reasons you are confused....

if something is wore out, even from normal everyday use, and has lasted its life expectancy, i always call it JUNK... lol, i dunno, its no good anymore, so now its junk. it wasnt junk before, but now it is... haha.

i love my tuber, and all the parts on it (except the crank seal, its a p.i.t.a., but were cool now)

BTW Court If the 99X1 front rotor wasn't "junk' they wouldn't have upgraded the design in 2000. The rotor on the 2000 does not self destruct like the previeous model. Oh and yea Dan it WILL fail if you let it go too long, EBC is the answer unless you get the nine point rotor from a 2K model. Let's all admit it, our bikes were, and some still are "works in progress'. The engineers try stuff and some times it dosen't work too good, we get to fix it, that's what we all call fun!

Same rotor I had on my 99S3T that I put 46,xxx miles on including 10 track days, drag racing (12.10@111) etc etc

You have a floating rotor with excess tolerance and a vivid imagination, not junk.

Okay. . . . Then, using your logic, we can ASSUME that the 2008 Porsche Cayman S is "junk" since the 2010 (there will be no 2009 Cayman) is getting a complete redesign.

I'll eagerly await your answer. . . .

P.S. - Don't waste a lot of time getting back to me . . . I may need to cancel an order.

My "plan" (dream?) is that by the time both my kids are "off the payroll" (out of college) that Caymens will be available used at reasonable prices just like the Boxster is now.

Convertibles are for girls - coupes are always better looking (IMO) and this is one coupe makes me drool

My thinking precisely . . .and there are killer deals (can you say 20% off MSRP) at the moment as my fellow Cayman Club members lust for the 2010.

I'm willing to settle for the current "junk" and my wife, the one who drives the convertible in the family, has moved from "never" to going to the dealer to select colors 2 weekends ago . . .

Junk?. . .

OK, back to the rotor.

Except a very few, most of the Buell enthusiasts I have encountered have told me the same thing, 99X1 front rotor, bad. Once it starts rattling it's over. I've got just over16k on mine and it's JUNK!

Nothing personal Court, just my observation. And I don't think the manufacturer just made mine bad just for me either.

I was never fond of convertibles myself.

Coupes are usually a bit faster (slippery shape)and handle better (more rigid).

That they are better looking is just a bonus.

Look at the Jaguar XK-8 to see what I mean.

Cheers,

Dave
