Has anyone put an S1 seat/tail section on a 99-02 X1? Did you make a new bolt-on rear frame sub-section out of tubing? Or can a rear frame sub-section be welded onto the frame? Anyone?

Thanks!

I have wondered this same question because I am thinking of buying a tube frame bike and i have seen several x1's that i have considered buying but i hate the rear end of it and think the s1's rear end looks alot better

+1 on the tail. As far as appearances the X1 is the same except for that chunk of aluminum, I'd like more body color.

Then why not paint it? Or weld up a subframe and put an airtech on it, or another one. My Millenium has a 05 gsxr 600 tail on it, looks hot!

Thanks for the info. I don't like the look of the aluminum piece even when painted to match the tank. It looks "unfinished" on the transition from tank to the tail. I was wondering if a cleaner subframe could be made out of chromoly to bolt onto the frame at the existing mount points. I really would not want to weld the frame. Air-tech was what I was looking at, or buying a used S1 tail/seat on ebay.

i'm not sure but it looks as though the x1 tail section is much wider than the s1's. where the x1 subframe bolts onto the frame may actually be close to the width of the s1 at the same spot.

x1 is far more comfy too, i would honestly get the solo subframe/seat for the x1 and paint it to desired color.

Well if you want to stick with Buell parts you could probably find a S1 tail out there, maybe from a chopper project... cut the tail from the old frame and weld it to the X1 better yet turn it into a bolt on tail, or fab one up to weld or bolt on...

A lot of sport bike subframes bolt on, there's been GSXR, (yamaha, what is that yzf?)R's and CBR tails grafted on, haven't seen one that looks bad yet.

Most of the painted / powder coated X1 tails look pretty good, but they still are fatter looking than the other options.

I LOVE the look of my S1 tail, seat comfort isn't a big deal for me but I spend a lot of time on a bicycle, many don't care for the "comfort" of the stock S1 saddle...

They are MUCH wider in the middle. Someone with an S1 go measure the width of where the subframe and mainframe split off, (top and bottom) I'll go measure my x1 in the morning when the weather clears up....

Oh yeah, and when I said weld one up I meant a seperate section that bolts up. I welded mine out of aluminum.

Solid flat stock as mount tabs, then machined down to mate to tubular..... Thing literally weighs only about 2 pounds, won't support passengers. But what a weight loss my tuber had!
