hey all,, i ended up with ryker 77`s old bike, (wish i would have found his old posts sooner) but you take your lumps!!
anyway i have had this bike less than a month and it just wasnt right from the start , i have rode a few 100 horse bikes and this didnt even seem close to them let alone 120 horse i was told,, so i went on a quest to find the prob, yanked off the header and made a couple of drag pipes and there it was, the rear cylinder was the problem, it was sucking back up the pipe so bad it would shred a piece of paper before you could blink, so being i was told it was all pro built my first thought was a burnt valve tore it down checked the lash it was good yanked the head and no burnt valve but a nice 87 thousands deep dent in the piston on the ex side, so on to the cams, the back ex cam was out , instead of pointing at each other they were lined level across 2 teeth out so after a call to dan at nrhs and a way lighter wallet the prob will be solved as soon as the new kit and parts arrive this friday
i just seen all of his past posts , super low dyno chart with a high of 60 horse and all your help you offered and thought you all might wanna know what the true prob was , just simple error of not connecting the dots, and running on 2 full cylinders should put this bike back up to snuff

didn't he put a carb on it with the original Efi box still doing the ignition?

I stared to tune out his posts after a while.

Glad to have you. Where in Ohio are you? Think about going down to West Virginia in August. I'm in Steubenville. Look me up if you get a chance.

i dont know about the efi box,, it had a revtec on it when i got it and a hsr 42 ,,,,my biggest concern was at idle the rear cyl was drawing in hot ex and burning the new intake charge up before it came up to compression, so no charge no pop dead cyl,, but under throttle it would draw in enough of a gas charge that the hot ex would make it blow on the up stroke before the crank had rolled over ,,so you guess what it felt like with the rear piston trying to blow backwards,, it sounded like a 2 stroke and felt like you were sitting on a detroit lol , thats how i found the prob i could not stand the 2 stroke sound and knew something just wasnt right ,,i figured it was the the header causing the echo , and with drag pipes it would be easy to tune and find the problem,, being able to see what each cyl was doing,,so out came the welder and a little later, custom drags,,and big trouble, i found way more than i wanted , (down side) i was told it was a new buell race shop pro built engine,,,major cash dump,,,no easy off the shelf parts,,, down time (upside)it will be a new engine when all the parts arrive ,,, i like a good challenge,,, and should be blast to ride on both cyl`s lol

And you thought you were getting a deal on a hot-rod bike, only to find out that it needed lots of work to fix what a know-nothing had done. and all your work means nothing, it's still a 3000 dollar bike(by the Blue Book)!

pretty much,, but if the bike would have been what it was supposed to be i thought it was a fair price.. with the list of mods that i would have had to buy later ,,it may sound weird but it actually saved me money ,, i was planning a build for this coming winter during off season,, you know bigger, better, badder thing,, for me it just isnt mine unless i build it ,and know every piece inside and out and have the piece of mind of knowing everything is right and tight cause i did myself and checked, rechecked, and checked it again , before i lay my life on it------ but then again im married pushing 40 have 4 sons and i`m a grandpa to boot ,so maybe it`s just old age setting in lol

Hey Ohio I'm 54 and it don't get any better from 40 to here, but I feel ya, It's just so dammed dissapointing when somebody tells you after you've sunk 4000 into fixing what was supposed to be a good bike at a good price, that it's still only worth 3000 by the kelly blue book! My X1 has had the BEST of everything I could put on it or do to it, it is spotless, and beautifull but when a curious would-be buyer asks "how much" without even seeing the bike they refer to Kelly Blue Book price or a sale price of some POS on fleabay! AAARRGGGHHH!!!

ohio, don't feel that bad. when i got the m2 to replace the one my daughter got hit on, i thought i was getting a good deal because it was pretty much the same bike i had along with some other things including upgraded engine work done by a supposed reputable shop. i don't think i had 2k miles on it when the motor went and because i'm not that mechanically inclined i had a harley shop do it. between the rebuild, rear tire, oil cooler, new cylinders and everything thing else to put it back to the way it was, not to mention having to split the case, i was looking at 4 grand of work just to keep the m2. anyway, knock on wood and hopefully your bike will last you a long time after you get it done and welcome to the club. overall, it's a pretty good one.

thats funny,, this was supposed to be pro built by a buell racing shop in FL and have less than 2,000 miles hmmm conspiracy maybe,,, just kidding,, im sure it will be fine just a setback i didnt budget for so soon,, i actually bought the bike for the race built engine and drivetrain for a project bike but after playing on it , i liked it and its the only one around here in this area ,, so i get some strange looks ,, alot of questions, , even a few fingers ever now and then lol

Ohio X1, parts came from a reputable shop,

I believe that the former owner may have done the assembley work himself

If I have my info right the former owner was GIVEN some help in the form of work or parts from that shop because of an unfortunate turn of events for him ,
that story line is quite convoluted and I only remember fragments.

After having tried to help him with PC problems related VSDS communications issues. The fact that the cams were not lined up is not a huge supprise

Engine work takes patience and close attention to detail particulary relating to timing.

Good luck with the rework sounds like your results will be better.

i dont know who or when it was done,, thats the prob with a used bike,, when its past hands so many times you dont know how many sets of fingers have been inside,,,i didnt think the shop done it ,,it was a simple mistake,, too simple for a pro shop to make,, and all the parts are top notch inside and exactly what they were said to be,, the build will go fine,,just cant wait for the parts to arrive and get cracking!!!

thanks!! alot of hours of hand rubbing to get the reflection finish,, but the kit i ordered from nrhs is still almost 11 to 1 a little higher than i wanted so i thought it might help with any pinging problems,,yeah it is a little upsetting ,,i made it clear that i needed the parts asap and if they did not have them i needed to look for another place... thats when i was told on monday that no later than this friday (past),, and where they are closed for 2 weeks i have no way of knowing if they were shipped or in the hurry of everyone going on vacation my parts are in a box setting in the floor overlooked,,, i wish i knew at least that much,,, cause if they are they could keep them hit me with a refund and i could get them here from someone else in 2 days guarenteed !!! and i could still make the 4th run ,,, oh well prob my fault for not asking around first!!!

Not your fault Ohio, It's bad business practice. If the person you talked to and were given a guaranty from didn't make sure to do the job right then they shouln't have left for vacation! When they put you in the ground and cover you with dirt, the only thing left behind is your reputation. I don't do business like that and I don't except it from anyone else, give'em hell! However, it's always a good idea to get a name and ask the hard question when dealing with these people...cover yer butt with both hands,ya know.

hey all,, got the skinny of it,,,it WAS NOT NRHS fault,,, it was shipped out last monday the day i ordered it,,, for some dumb ass reason UPS decided to delay my shipment and since monday and it has been setting in Colorado and it has just now made it to IL and is due here on the (1st) according to their tracking order it was their screw up,,so now my faith has been restored in NRHS keeping their word,,, but you bet i`m going to ask UPS what the hell their brain fart was about!!!!

buellisticx1 i didnt oreder the 1250 kit,, they were going to have to remachine the heads for the larger bore because of the 30 degree squish band, used a new set of pistons and redone the jugs,,,, jstfrfun not such a good recovery the pistons were 250 domes i didnt check the squish band when i tore it down and no way it could have been even close all total was 57 thou of gaskets and base ,, (i guess he was trying to lower the compression),, anyway after setting the squish band right im higher than it was,,it figured 10.3-1 with all the gaskets he had v/s 11.6-1 now with the right squish,,it should be interesting,,im hope with the right squish and new ignition (dyna 2000), cam being lined up and the shine job, i can dial it in on pump gas but i have my doubts,,but i figured 1 week to get the parts, nrhs is off for 2 weeks ,1 week to send them back and 1 more week to get them here.. forget it, throw it together and run this season even if its on race fuel at least i wont be down for a month and a half and it should hit a good lick,, but once again its my fault for assuming the squish band was set right before i tore it down,,, nothing else has been ,,right now im down to doing the rocker box`s and setting lash, carb, pipes, ign, timing, etc so i`ll prob be a couple more days to finish it all up
