Is there an easy way to open the tach and speedo in an M2. I want to get custom faceplates made. Any ideas besides a dremel?

Nevermind, I got it.

It looks crisp and clear in person.

Like an otter opening an oyster. Get a small flat head screwdriver, CAREFULLY catch an edge on THE BOTTOM on the back where it is rolled over. You will find the screwdriver needs to be flat, you kind of use it so the tip and one side get under the lip and pry it. I cannot stress, gently so it can go back together without a kink in the metal ring. Looking at the gauge you will pry that area from 3:00 to 9:00 (bottom). If a mistake is made at least it is on the bottom on your panel. You will increase the prying after every pass, Maybe about 6 passes until you can pull the ring off. Once you get it off (GENTLY - use a set of regular pliers and grip only the rolled edge with the tips of the pliers 1/8 in max and even the pried part up and the spots that you were overstrong and make it kind of even, the ring will go back on much easier_It will take about 30 minutes. Here are some points.

1. You will mar the grey plastic. No big deal. After reassembly I lightly sanded to get rid of some of it but black covers go over them anyhow.

2. Assemble them in reverse, after cleaning and blowing out the gauges with air to get out loose plastic you nicked.

3. Use a small hammer and a 3/16 punch to curl lip back over edge, this will take about 4 passes. 1st pass, crimps it back over slightly, 2nd more, 3rd brings it close to flat and the final evens it out. I put mine on a file folder, light cardboard to protect finish. Take your time or you will have an uneven seal.

They came out perfect. When they will be remounted in a week or two a bet anyone they cannot tell they have been opened. They look factory. I am making a new plastic gauge panel to fit my new Givi A770 Fairing. I have more area about 30% more for a few more switches and other improvements. The hardest part was making the perfect pattern. I will post pictures.

1. Spiderman - It is almost all Harley Labels. It is what it is, like I say, Purists know what it is, and it will just confuse the Harley guys. The bike just came out of paint. The tank will have Nightrain emblems, and below the seat will be shadow cut vinyl XRGT-1200, 1" letters. It is more Harley than most choppers with Revtech and S&S Motors and Baker trans'. Harley INSPIRED but no Harley parts. I even have a cowbell for the horn, custom mounted. It looks stock.

Lovedabueller - There is no bulb in either of them when I bought it used. They might be for Fuel injected motor light, and the other low fuel or something, but not on the M2. The cluster when I bought the bike was from and X1 Lightning.

It is going to be one of a kind bike. I have a Givi A770 fairing that is just awesome and more functional than the stupid flyscreen and it is not that much bigger. Maybe 20%, but designed better.

No, I am guessing these gauges came from an X1. I have the bike disassembled and it just got painted and ALOT of updates and upgrades. There are NO wires of any kind or fuel gauge in the tank that I can see at all.
