After researching the forums I have concluded that my voltage regulator for my 2000 Buell X1 Lightning is toast. the local HD dealer wants $90 and 7-10 days so I called Jireh and the lady was not sure of the part number - From some other post I have 74567-98Y as the part number. Jireh had one but its part number is 74523-94A. Does any one know if this will work on my bike or a good place to get one? I also found one on the accel site with the 74523-94 part number that says it will work for 94-03 sporsters - same part number as Jireh. Mine has the plug with the two pins and the 3rd wire is a bullet connector.

Thanks

I thought mine was toast. However it turned out to be a bad ground between my frame and swingarm. I replace the bolt, nut, and washers on the strap and cleaned the conection to the frame and all was better. Check everything before you spend the money.

Also, my Dad has a 2001 Sportster. It is the same regulator as my M2, HOWEVER the plug IS different. If you do go that route, save your old plug and splice the proper connector on.

ok so the new voltage regulator (part number 74523-94A from Jira) shows up and it does have a diffrent plug, so I decide to test it to make sure it works b/4 I splice the old connector to it. I connect the ground wire and mount the regulator and plug into the sator and test the lead going back to the battery, but it is only showing a little less than 6 volts. I was figuring it should be around 13.5 did I get a bad regulator, is this a valid test??? I also ran a jumper wire between the two leads since they dont connect (batt and voltagte regulator) and the voltage does not go up with the motor running. It stays about the same 12v.

Measure the AC voltage coming out of your stator. The stator should put out about 32V ac I think.
It should also float with respect to ground.

The metal plate that holds the wires comming out of the stator had cut into the wire. Pulled it all apart today. Now I just have to put it all back togeather again. After fixing the detent plate I am getting pretty good at pulling the primary cover off. Should have checked that closer when I had it off the first time.
